It's the thought that counts... / C'est l'intention qui compte...

A couple of weeks ago, I discovered my friends from vivelescaribous had found a new place. By sheer voyeurism kindness I offered my help. So here I was, on a Sunday morning, knocking at the door of a soon-to-be-completely-unfurnished apartment...
Il y a une semaine ou deux, je découvre que mes amis de vivelescaribous ont trouvé un nouvel appartement. Par pure voyeurisme gentillesse j'ai proposé mon aide. Me voilà donc, un dimanche matin, toquant à la porte d'un appartement presque démeublé...
My achey breaky arm was in good enough shape to hold things (I tilted objects so that all the weight would be shifted to the left arm, so don't worry people, I'm fine, didn't overstrain the elbow), and here we were loading the rental van with dismantled pieces of furniture.
Mon bras était en suffisamment bon état pour pouvoir tenir des choses (j'ai penché des objets pour que tout le poids soit transféré au bras gauche, donc vous inquiétez pas, je vais bien, j'ai pas forcé sur le coude), et nous voilà chargeant la camionette de loc' avec des morceaux de meubles.
Luckily for us, they already moved most all the small items the day before (boxes, boxes and boxes), so all that was left could be moved in just one load. It was one Tetris challenge we got there...
Heureusement pour nous, ils avaient déjà déménagé la plupart des petits trucs la veille (cartons, cartons et cartons), donc ce qui restait tenait en un seul voyage. C'était un défi à la Tétris, qu'on avait là...
We managed to get there, eventually, and since we were promised a brunch and cold beer as a reward, I would have felt bad just helping load/unload a little van, wouldn't I? So while the girls were busy preparing the reward in the kitchen:
On a réussi à y arriver, au final, et vu qu'on avait la perspective d'un brunch et bière fraîche en guise de récompense, je me serais senti mal de seulement aider à charger/décharger une camionnette, vous croyez pas? Donc tandis que les filles étaient occupées à préparer la récompense en cuisine :

We guys started to work on the most important items: the table, the couch and the bed. I would like to point out that my interest in assembling back the furniture was not at all led by my lifelong liking of assembling stuff, neither was it led by the sight of an electric drill & driver set, of course... >_< Nous autres hommes nous sommes affairés sur le plus important: la table, le canapé, et le lit. J'aimerais souligner que mon interêt pour remonter les meubles n'était pas, mais alors pas du tout lié à mon goût pour l'assemblage de choses diverses et variées, ni par la vue d'une perceuse/visseuse/dévisseuse éléctrique, bien sûr... >_<
All things considered, perhaps it was not a very good idea to help re-assemble the couch, because when you have it, you tend to lose all motivation to unpack all the boxes. I have evidence:
Tout bien réfléchi, p'têt que c'était pas une si bonne idée d'aider à remonter le canapé, parce qu'une fois que vous l'avez, vous avez tendance à perdre toute motivation pour déballer les cartons. J'ai des preuves :

Still watching the electric drill & driver set:

- (musing aloud) I can't wait to have kids, so that I can get stuff like that for Father's Day
- (laughing) You know, it'll be faster and easier to buy it yourself, and they'll buy it with your money anyways.
- (sheepish grin) Yeah, but it's the thought that counts...

Toujours en regardant la perceuse/visseuse/dévisseuse :

- (pensant tout haut) J'ai hâte d'avoir des gamins, pour pouvoir avoir des trucs comme ça à la fête des pères
- (rigolant) Tu sais, ça ira plus vite et ce sera plus simple de t'en payer une toi-même, et ils te la paieront avec tes sous de toute façon.
- (sourire niaiseux) Ouais, mais c'est l'intention qui compte...
