Have you ever tried Peruvian food?? Even I’ve never seen it anywhere until recently, but when I checked Eatigo app (What’s Eatigo?) suddenly BLU36 pop up and I doubted my own eyes…

What on earth is it? At the same time, it made me feel interested.  Luckily we could get 50% off discount from Eatigo too so we made a booking there.

The restaurant is inside a lovely house located on quiet Sukhumvit Soi 36. It’s the last place you will find even by accident, but I like this hidden location. We visited there as soon as it opened. There were 2 more groups besides us. They don’t use much lighting and it makes the space feel very romantic.

We ordered Confetti a la Quinoa (seafood clear soup made of grilled fish, shrimps and a delicious broth by a family recipe of their chef).

Once I put it into my mouth, I opened my eyes wide, because it is totally new taste for me, but very delicious and my tongue was delighted to accept it even as I ate Peruvian food for the first time. It’s quite spicy and has a very rich flavor.

Before I tried this dish, I imagined Peruvian food is very spicy and use lots of seasoning, so it isn’t suited to a Japanese palate, but it’s my misunderstanding. Japanese will love this flavor.

He ordered Seafood paella and Tiradito Salmon (raw salmon with green chili sauce).

When he ordered Tiradito Salmon, I actually didn’t want him to order it, because it looks like just a salmon sashimi… but it was totally my mistake. It actually tastes very different from Salmon sashimi. It has something of a foreign taste…I found a new way to eat sashimi. If it is marinated with South American spice, it’s not Japanese food at all. Really good =)

The last plate, Seafood paella impressed us deeply. As you know Peru was a Spanish colony a long time ago, so they have paella as one of their traditional dishes, I guess. But it had a different taste from normal Spanish paella. I don’t know if this is chef’s taste or Peruvian taste. It tastes more mild and very delicious… we were really impressed with this dish.

Normally restaurants serve food which have a slight chemical/artificial taste, but I never felt anything like that here. It tastes like nice home cooked food.

I’m sure that Peruvian food will steal your heart. I will be back soon.

Thanks!
