Birdman by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

J’étais extrêmement intriguée par le sujet de ce film : Un acteur considéré comme has-been, connu pour avoir joué un super-héros, tente de renouer avec le succès. Quand j’ai constaté que le rôle principal était tenu par Michael Keaton, j’ai trouvé ça génial. Pour ceux qui l’ignorent, l’acteur a incarné Batman pour Tim Burton. Du coup, vous comprendrez mieux pourquoi je trouve que le choix de casting est ici magistral.

I was extremely intrigued by the subject of this movie : An actor, considered has-been and known for playing a superhero, is trying to return to success. When I found that the main role was played by Michael Keaton, I thought it was a great choice. For those unaware, the actor incarnated Batman under the direction of Tim Burton. So, you will understand why I find the choice of cast is masterful. 

Loin de tomber dans le pathos ou le côté dramatique, Inarritu nous sert un film surprenant plein d’humour et avec une touche de fantastique (à l’image de la scène d’ouverture de lévitation). Le cinéaste aborde le sujet de l’acteur possédé par son personnage. Une réflexion qui m’a toujours intéressée vu que je suis moi-même actrice (amatrice) dans une troupe de théâtre et que je suis fasciné par le rapport entre l’acteur et le rôle qu’il incarne. Il suffit de ce souvenir de l’impact que le rôle du Joker a eu sur Heath Ledger pour comprendre que ce sujet est loin d’être un simple mythe hollywoodien.

Far from falling into pathos or drama, Inarritu gives us a surprising and humorous movie with a fantastic touch (like the opening scene of levitation). The director approaches the subject of the actor possessed by his character. A reflection that has always interested me since I am myself an (amateur) actress in a theater company and I am fascinated by the relationship between the actor and the role he plays. Just the memory of the impact that the part of the Jokar had on Heath Ledger is enough to understand that this topic is far from a simple Hollywood myth.

Je trouve réellement le choix de casting pour ce film des plus intéressants et intelligents. Surtout quand on le met en lien avec la thématique soulevez précédemment. Outre Michael Keaton, Edward Norton (Fight Club, American History X), Zach Galifianakis (Very Bad Trip) ou Naomi Watts (Muholland Drive) ont aussi incarné des personnages dont il est encore difficile pour le public de les dissocier.

I actually found the choice of casting for this movie very interesting and smart. Especially when it is placed in connection with the subject lift above. Besides Michael Keaton, Edward Norton (Fight Club, American History X), Zach Galifianakis (Very Bad Trip) or Naomi Watts (Muholland Drive) also embodied the characters which it is still difficult for the public to separate them. 

Ce film est un réellement un objet cinématographique non identifié. C’est ici un unique plan séquence qui prend vie ce qui donne un effet de montagne russe incessant. La caméra accompagne ainsi les revirements de situations entre les acteurs qui passe sans cesse d’un moment de folie à un moment de réflexion en prenant le contrôle de l’écran chacun leur tour. C’est une véritable prouesse technique que je trouve personnellement plus impressionnante qu’un Avatar signé James Cameron.

This film is actually an unidentified cinematic object. It is made up of an unique sequence-shot that comes to life which gives a constant roller coaster effect to it. The camera escorts the turnaround situations between actors who constantly move from moment of thought to madness by taking turns to take control of the screen. This is a technical prowess that I personally find more impressive than Avatar directed by James Cameron.
