Last year I told you about the Paris Jazz Festival: " Established around 20 years ago, the festival has become one of the major events on the jazz scene. Back in 1994, two jazz enthusiasts sensed that "the musical harmonies and the colours of nature would be a perfect match for one another". And it was in the superb setting of the Parc Floral de Paris that the project first saw the light of day. " (See previous article for more details.)
This year the 22nd festival takes place in the Parc Floral from 7 June to 26 July. On the agenda 31 concerts over 8 weekends and an exciting line-up of other entertainment including music workshops for beginners. The spotlight is on eight different capital cities including New York, London, Bamako, Stockholm and of course, Paris. The French capital is always given a prominent spot at the Festival in recognition of its role in the development of jazz. I strongly recommend venturing out to the park if you happen to be in Paris on one of the weekends. It's a wonderful place much loved by Parisians and fabulous music is guaranteed. If you fancy learning something new, why not try the workshop on how to make pan pipes or shekeres or Sergio Ariel Ortuño Priario's workshop on the sounds of candombe drums?
