Ann-Kathrin Wustrack, jeune femme designer allemande nous présente son projet baptisé Leathern Tool Series réalisé dans le cadre de sa formation à HTW Berlin en collaboration avec le designer anglais Adrian Peach.
Une réflexion, exploration autour de l’outil, de la hache au tournevis. Repenser l’approche, repenser les matériaux, faisant basculer peu à peu l’outil vers une œuvre, les sortant de leur boite à outils.
Plus qu’un projet, une réflexion plus large :
« We live in a high tech age today, in which old traditional craftsmanship becomes rare, though creating things with your own hands is a true joy. There are still people with love for traditional (wood) working. When looking at hand tools, one can notice the predominant use of plastics. Its a contradiction: A tool to do creative work with, made out of a mass production artificial material.
Though it may have many benefits, we as prospective designers have the responsibility to create long living, environmental friendly products. People should remember how to use their hands to create stuff. Our throw-away society lacks in long living products that tell a story because they outlive generations. The focus should lay on uniqueness & quality – not quantity. In this way, the true joy of creating becomes valued.«

L’ajout de la composante « esthétique » semble donc influencer la place de l’objet, même un simple outil ?
La hache, entre outils et arme de destruction de zombies, semble ne pas laisser les designers et créateurs indifférents…
