Les plus belles perles sont souvent cachées au fond de l’océan. Arndt Roerig et Marko Vidovic - aka Tube & Berger - eux, viennent d’une petite ville industrielle d’Allemagne.

Dans les années 90, la vague tech-house déferle sur l’Europe et happe musicalement les deux troubles fêtes, alors dans un groupe de punk. Le choc est sans appel, et le duo se voit plongé dans l’univers pénétrant de la deep. C’est donc un son profond, autant dans la forme que dans son fond introspectif.

A mi-chemin entre des sonorités aquatiques deep-house (In my dip), et un son plus techno tribal (Human You), le duo jongle entre synthé et percussions pour composer une musique qui résonne et exalte férocement les rescapés des clubs Berlinois.

Au programme niveau clips: un scaphandre géant qui bouge son booty façon macarena devant le tower bridge (StraightAhead) ou encore un éléphant qui se tire de son cirque pour teuffer dans le métro (La Boca Loca). L’univers délirant des deux DJs ainsi mis en image séduit, séduit…Si bien que la rumeur de l’agilité de leurs vingt doigts sur les platines enfle et explose finalement en 2004.

Et pour cause! Le Bill Board - une référence Américaine en matière de musique -  les hisse au premier rang mondial du classement hot 100,  grâce à StraightAdead et son scaphandre fou, les sacrant officiellement surchauffeurs numéro un de la planète.

Mais la reconnaissance populaire les fâche, ils n’aiment pas être au devant de la scène. Noyés dans une mare de labels (Great Stuff Recordings, Moonbootique, Trapez, Ministry of Sound) ils profitent de ce moment de gloire absolue pour s’émanciper et créer le leur, qu’ils baptiseront Kittball. Plus de règles ni d’autorité souveraine, ni Dieu ni maitre, ils sont enfin libres.

Tube & Berger utiliseront ce label pour compiler les sons d’artistes de renom (Andhim, Dirty Doering, Timo Maas, Ida Engberg, Martin Eyerer, Daniel Steinberg, Basti Grub, Nicolas Stefan… sans oublier leur copine de toujours, Juliet Sikora) et verser les bénéfices des ventes à une œuvre caritative. Entre musique électronique et action humanitaire, pas de lien établit, mais un rapport fascinant dès lors que l’on s’y penche : le projet « It Began in Africa » (en hommage aux Chemical Brothers ?) est créé en 2009 dans le but d’aider les jeunes musiciens du African Children’s Choir. Free Tribe (classée numero un par BeatPort) mène le pas devant Africa is The Future, Kings of Kigali, Nation of the Sun…les deux compils liées au projet sont chargées de ces tracks africanisantes qui rayonnent invitent un public toujours plus nombreux à se livrer à des danses frénétiques.

Et aujourd’hui, qui sont-t-ils ? Deux artistes qui n’ont pas fini d’agiter la scène tech-house mondiale, ainsi que les bras des convertis. Vous pourrez en juger par vous-même puisque le 26 Avril prochain ils seront nos invités au Social Club (Facebook link / RA link).

The finest of pearls always seem to be hidden furthest in the oceans depths. Amdt Roerig and Marko Vidovic - aka Tube & Berger - have come a long way from a small industrial town in Germany from which they were born.

In the 90’s, the tech-house wave swept all of Europe and just so happened to snap up these two party crashers along the way; who early on took the stage in a punk rock band. It come as no shock, as the two had plunged themselves into a universe penetrating the deep. Their sound emulates this, both in its form and introspective background.

Half-way between aquatic deep-house sounds (in my dip), and a more tribal techno (Human You), the duo juggles synths and percussions to compose music which resonates and ferociously exalts the survivors of Berlin clubs.]

In their video clips: a giant astronaut shaking his booty, macarena style throughout the city (StraightAhead) or another with an elephant who escapes the circus to create a massive rager in the metro (La Boca Loca). The insane world of these two DJs in both image and sound instantly seduce…  leading the agility of their twenty fingers to place themselves on turntables and sky rocket the charts of 2004.

And for a good cause! They climbed straight to the top of the Billboard charts with StraightAhead and that crazy astronaut. The boys revved up the Hot 100 rankings with their breakthrough placement as number one in the world.

Despite new popular recognition, the two were never needy for the spotlight. Drowned in a pool of major labels (Great Stuff Recordings, Moonbootique, Trapez, Ministry of Sound) they took advantage of their newfound glory to emancipate themselves and create their own label, Kittball Records. Placing themselves in the hands of their own destiny, they were finally set free of all restrictions and regulations. Making no barrier an obstacle.

Tube & Berger use this label to compile the sounds of renowned artists (Andhim, Dirty Doering, Timo Maas, Ida Engberg, Martin Eyerer, Daniel Steinberg, Basti Grub, Nicolas Stefan … not to mention their longtime friend, Juliet Sikora) and take further sale profits to finance their charity. Between electronic music, and humanitarian action, no link established, but fascinating when we turn the spotlight on their project « It Began in Africa » (in homage to the Chemical Brothers?) which was created in 2009 to help young musicians in the African Children’s Choir. Free Tribe (ranked number one by BeatPort) lead the way to Africa is the Future, Kings of Kigali, Nation of the Sun … both compilations related to the project are responsible for these tracks that radiate Africanism and invite a widespread audience to engage in their frenzied dances.

And today, who are they ? Two artists who continue to shake up the tech-house scene on a global level, and steal the hearts of an ever-growing fan base… As for now we leave it to you to judge for yourselves as of April 26th they’ll be our guests at Social Club.
