Asakusa

Asakusa, quartier populaire de Tokyo, connu pour ses artisans, abrite le plus vieux temple de Tokyo, le Sensoji. Chose curieuse, le nom du quartier et celui du temple s’écrivent avec les mêmes caractères chinois mais l’un, le quartier, se lit “à la japonaise” tandis que l’autre, le temple, se lit “à la chinoise”.
Asakusa is a popular area of Tokyo, famous for its craftsmen and also for "Sensoji", the oldest temple in Tokyo. Something curious is the fact that both the name of the area, Asakusa, and the name of the temple, Sensoji, are written with the same Chinese characters but Asakusa is the Japanese pronounciation and Sensoji the Chinese one.



La photo ci-dessus montre l’entrée du temple connue comme le “Kaminarimon”, littéralement la porte du tonnerre. On pourrait s’attendre à ce que ça pète une fois à l’intérieur, pas vraiment...
The photo above shows "Kaminarimon", the name of the entrance of this temple, the "mon" in Japanese. Litterally translated, it means "The door of thunder" and one could expect some trouble after entering but this is not really the case....



Plutôt ambiance de kermesse avec une longue allée bordée de stands vendant entre autre ...des glaces.
The atmosphere is rather relax with a long paved alley with tens of booths selling among other things... ice-creams.

Une fois le barrage de stands franchi, arrêt obligatoire devant un énorme encensoir pour se purifier l’âme dans la bonne humeur et...
Then appears a huge thurible where visitors stop to purify their souls in, as you can see on the picture, a joyfull atmosphere.




Un petit lavage de mains ou des ablutions (comme le personnage derrière la jeune fille en bleue) avant d’entrer dans le temple pour prier.
And before entering the temple itself for praying, visitors wash their hands and/or perform ablutions (like the old man behind the lady in blue).
