Ruby 5 to 7, Like Thunder out of China vernissage at L’Arsenal, another week in Montreal

Publié le 02 février 2013 par Unefillecommeca @unefillecommeca

I have some issues managing my calendar and activities. I double book my friend. I forget when I say I’ll go. So, if you try to do something with me, you would hate me for that. A perfect example is I try to go to Crossfit three times a week, but there is always so much going on in Montreal, so I usually skip one day. That’s bad but recurring. 5 to 7 win over sport.

5 to 7 Ruby at Taza Flores

Lydie Padilla, Juliette Sobecki et Alexandra Bonan
I’ve been inviting to help a friend to prepare a social media and fashion workshop, for Ruby, a TV show of TFO. We were talking about how to optimize fashion content for SEO purposes and how to use the differents social platforms, such as Pinterest, Instagram, or Tumblr when you are a fashion blogger.

Ironically, I am writing about that event in english, whereas it’s a francophone show. Perfect example of english and french paradox at Montreal.

Ruby is a TV magazine for every women who adore to discover new shops, brands or cultural events. It’s a very fresh, dynamic and inspiring series of charming discoveries. From fashion to food, Ruby offers an essential rendez-vous, presented by lovely Nadia Campbell. In Montreal, we never heard enough about Ontario, and we got, on Tuesday night, all the reasons to go to taste, try, and visit everything Nadia Campbell and her team recommend. Prepare your next trip to Ontario with their Instagram-inspired website. Une mine d’or.

Friends from Montreal, I’d like to say a few words about Taza Flores : it’s a really nice place in Mile End, on Parc, wheree you can hav delicious tapas – I loved the crab salad !

If you’re up to more details about this event, read my friends’ review – in french – Alex Bonan on Ruby, la web-télé qui vous veut du bien, and Juliette Sobecki Ruby, une amie qui vous veut du bien.

惊雷 / Coup de foudre chinois / Like Thunder out of China at L’Arsenal

Arsenal Montréal Le Magasin CNAC Grenoble
Chinese contemporary art is very trendy, but I am not really into it. I wanted to go to the vernissage though, just to be sure and because I love L’Arsenal. This space is perfect for art exhibition, and reminds me of Le Magasin CNAC. This former slaughterhouse has been transformed into an impressive exhibition area, and I am specially lucky because it’s in my city, Grenoble.

The exhibition Coup de foudre chinois/Like thunder out of china is a group show of contemporary Chinese artists curated by Pia Camilla Copper and Margot Ross. Among the artists, the Gao Brothers, Han Bing and Lu Fei Fei.

Miss Mao Gao Brothers
The Gao Brothers present one sculpture of their series Miss Mao, a grotesque and monstrous mix of Minnie and Pinocchio with huge breasts and a long nose. Personally, I prefer Jeff Koons.

I noticed a series of 4 or 5 photos representing Chinese peasants holding a red brick, a very light symbolic of the consequences of Mao’s red book on country life, in my very own opinion.

Like Thunder out of China at L'Arsenal
I’d say I love to go to that vernissage with my friend, especially because I met some interesting people, especially this girl who work on the same floor than I do. We usually meet either in the washrooms at work or in social event like this vernissage. She is very stylish and I love her very own sense of fashion. It’s always a pleasure to run into her for a quick chat with red wine.

There were also this American Flag made with human hair. I don’t remember the artist, but I prefer Jasper Johns.
