The research I made regarding Barcelona pointed to a mandatory visit of the Boqueria. The covered market is located a few feet from the Rambla and offers all sorts of fresh items. I made me wish we had a rental and could come for our groceries. Everything is there: meats, fresh fish, salted fish, fruits and vegetables, chocolates and other sweets.
We walked around the booth, admiring the rainbow of colors, letting the crowd move us (claustrophobic people should avoid it).
We really though about eating at one of the booth. There were people waiting, the menu wasn't the easiest to read but the dish looked great. The atmosphere was so attractive, in the middle of the market with the smells, and produce likely coming from the neighbor booth. But by the time we picked on we were hungry. We waited a while, not really understanding who was before or after us, how did the service work? So we gave up. I regret it a little but who knows how long we would have had to wait...
Instead we ate in a little restaurant attached to the market: La Gardunya. I had my doubts because the menu was translated in several languages, but hunger won and we did not regret it. The dish were good while maybe a little pricier? We started with the potato omelett.
Followed by their version of the Patatas Bravas (as I said Hubby had made it a goal to try them all). Not a memorable dish but at least it filled the stomach.
I wanted to try the fried cod and the fried mushroom , especially after seeing the cod croquettes in the market. I liked the fish version better than the mushroom.
In the end the best dish to me was their salad: tuna, corn, tomatoe, lettuce, eggs, aspargus and a good dressing. Really good.
