It's been a long way from this to that. Karin Ström was one of the very first artist I mentionned in this blog. She made pop music and lived in the States. Nowadays, she is into minimalist electro sung in Swedish. In between, I told the whole story of the beginning of her career in the longest interview ever made in this blog. So, yes, Absolut Noise will always be Karin's home. Except if she starts to play rubbish music.
Silent Night, her brand new song, is not rubbish music. It might even be my favourite electro-Karin song. It was made for a famous Swedish vodka brand (what would be Absolut Noise without noise ?)... For once, lyrics are in English. It is built upon the same electro roots than her album En saga om en sten, but there is a little bit more pop in it. Consequently, I would say that Silent Night makes the junction between pop-Karin and electro-Karin. That is a good thing to me.
Also, as I am the best Karin Ström music expert on earth, I have noticed that Silent Night could actually be considered as an electro new version of her song Were you ever there that was on her "ghost album", never released but published in Absolut Noise. The video shows Karin and some friends of her (who are actually some friends of her in real life) going to Spy Bar, which is, with Sturecompagniet and Berns, the most trendy club in Östermalm. At least, that's how it was when I was there. To me, there are two basic "schools" to go out in Stockholm : Söder and Östermalm. Söder is more about indie rock kids who go to Debaser Slussen, get drunk with cheap beer listening to The Cure and think they are cool. Östermalm deals with the beautiful people, with more money and more make up, who get drunk with white wine listening to The Embassy and think they are cool. I'm more into Söder. Maybe cause I don't wear any make up. Or cause I'm not that rich. Well, at least I know I'm not cool.

Que de temps passé entre ceci et cela. Karin Ström est l'une des premières artistes dont j'ai parlée sur ce blog. Elle chantait de la pop et vivait aux Etats-Unis. Désormais, elle fait de l'électro minimaliste en Suédois. Entre les deux, j'ai raconté tout son début de carrière lors du plus long interview jamais réalisé sur ce blog. Alors, c'est vrai, Absolut Noise sera toujours la maison de Karin. Sauf si elle se met à pondre de la daube infâme.
Silent Night, sa toute nouvelle chanson, n'est pas une daube infâme. Ce pourrait même être ma chanson préférée d'électro-Karin. Elle a été réalisée pour une pub d'une célèbre marque de vodka suédoise (mais que serait donc Absolut Noise sans le bruit ?)... Pour une fois, les paroles sont en anglais. Le morceau trouve sa source dans les mêmes eaux électro que son disque En saga om en sten, mais il sonne davantage pop. Je dirais donc que Silent Night fait la jonction entre la pop-Karin et l'électro-Karin. Plutôt une bonne chose, selon moi.
Par ailleurs, puisque je suis le plus grand expert en musique de Karin Ström au monde, j'attire votre attention sur les énormes ressemblances entre Silent Night et sa chanson Were you ever there tirée de son "album fantôme", jamais sorti dans le commerce mais publié dans Absolut Noise. Les deux titres sont vraiment très proches. Si vous en doutez, ré-écoutez donc Were you ever there ici (et allez donc aussi ici pour les autres titres tirés de cet "album fantôme").
La vidéo met en scène Karin et des copines à elle (qui sont ses vraies amies dans la vie réelle) au Spy Bar, le club le plus célèbre d'Östermalmstorg, avec Sturecompagniet et Berns. Tout du moins, c'était ainsi lorsque je vivais là-bas. Selon moi, il existe deux "écoles" pour faire la fête à Stockholm : Söder et Östermalm. Söder concerne essentiellement les amateurs de rock indé qui vont à Debaser Slussen, se défoncent la gueule avec de la bière pas chère en écoutant The Cure et pensent qu'ils sont cools. Östermalm touche davantage les "beautiful people", avec plus d'argent et plus de maquillage, qui se défoncent la gueule avec du vin blanc en écoutant The Embassy et pensent qu'ils sont cools. Perso, je suis plus Söder. Peut-être parce que je ne porte pas de maquillage. Ou parce que je ne suis si pas si riche que ça. Mais bon, au moins, je sais que je ne suis pas cool.
