To mark this Philately Week 2011 in Republic of Korea, a Stamp Exhibition was held at the COEX (World Trade Center) in Seoul, from 28 July to 1 August 2011, under the theme of "the culture of the global village that you can encounter through stamps" this year.
The visitors to this Expo were able to admire some of the rarest Korean stamps such as a sheet of "Munwi-upyo" stamps (the first Korean stamp issued in 1884) or a sheet of stamps celebrating the 40th anniversary of the enthronement of Emperor Gojong (the first commemorative stamp issued in Korea in 1902)...
As in previous years, Korea Post has issued, from July 28, 2011, a series of stamps commemorating this Philatly Week, devoted to modern paintings.
The four fan-shaped stamps, designed by Junghwa Roh, were issued each in classical sheet but also in four se-tenant miniature sheets.
I was very lucky to receive the four beautiful covers above and below, each franked with the single stamp and its associated miniature sheet !
Thank you very much Ji-Ho for these wonders with special postmarks (of August 6, 2011) from Busan :-)
A wash drawing entitled "Sansu" ("mountain and water") by Jo Seok-Jin, considered as the last Korean modern painter to inherit the painting style of the Joseon Dynasty period, is reproduced above.
The painting above, "Jangsongnakil" ("tall pine tree and setting sun"), is a work by Ji Woon-Young, full of lyricism and sensitivity.
The artist Chae Yong-Sin has painted the work above entitled "Unnangjasang" ("the portrait of Unnangja"), considered as a new type of "painting of beauty" in modern times.
Some beautiful galloping horses tangled together are finally featured on the work "Gunmado" painted by Kim Ki-Chang, reproduced on the last stamp of this series above.
