Atterrissage d'Atlantis ce 21 juillet 2011 à 11h58 pour la dernière mission d'une navette spatiale américaine

Alors qu'il y a trois jours, l'astronaute américain John Glenn fêtait son 90e anniversaire, la navette spatiale Atlantis a atterri à Cap Canaveral en Floride ce jeudi 21 juillet 2011 à 11h58 (heure de Paris) après une mission de treize jours. Atlantis avait décollé le vendredi 8 juillet 2011 à 17h36. C'était le dernier vol d'une navette spatiale américaine. La NASA reprendra la technologie des lanceurs classiques. Le 21 juillet est aussi un clin d'œil à l'anniversaire du premier homme sur la Lune le 21 juillet 1969, il y a quarante-deux ans.

The Shuttle Ends Its Final Voyage and an Era in Space
The last space shuttle flight rolled to a stop at 5:58 a.m. on Thursday, closing an era of the nation’s space program.
It was the 19th night landing at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to end the 135th space shuttle mission. For Atlantis, the final tally of its 26-year career: 33 missions, accumulating just short of 126 million miles during 307 days in space.
A permanent marker will be placed on the runway to mark the final resting spot of the space shuttle program.
