The 2011 BET Awards airs live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California today Sunday June 26 2011.
African stars 2Face Idibia, D’banj, D-Black, Angelique Kidjo, Fally Ipupa and Teargas are competing for the Best International Act (Africa) prize.
Stars with African parentage are also doing us proud in other categories. Idris Elba (Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian parentage) is up for the Best Actor prize; Laura Izibor (Laura’s father is Nigerian), Skepta(Nigerian parentage – Real Name: Joseph Junior Adenuga), Tinchy Stryder (Ghanaian parentage – Real Name: Kwasi Danquah) and Tinie Tempah (Nigerian parentage – Real Name: Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu) are all competing for the Best International Act (UK) award.
Leading up to the main show tonight, our stars and music industry executives including Cecil Hammond, Efe Omorogbe and Seun Bankulli have been hanging out with their American counterparts at the various pre-award events.
