A few days ago, Beyonce announced her collaboration US First Lady Michelle Obama and the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation to help combat childhood obesity and promote healthy eating and exercise; In Nigeria, 2Face Idibia is working with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to battle against the menace of fake and sub-standard food and drug products in Nigeria. To this end, he recently recorded a theme song for FASPAC (Fake And Sub-standard Products Awareness Campaign) project being spearheaded by Hypertek/ Now Muzik in collaboration with Promotie with the support of NAFDAC. The single, “Man Unkind”, produced by award-winning beatmaker J. 2Face has been known to be a socially responsible cultural icon who has the ears of millions of Nigerians from diverse demographical divides at home and abroad. As a result, and in a move to reach the populace from the top to the grassroots, the agency, under the dynamic leadership of its indefatigable DG, Dr. Paul Orhii, the artiste was appointed a NAFDAC ambassador in 2009. Since then, 2Face’s star power has been deployed in many public enlightenment activities organized by the agency to maximum effect.
In a bid to take the message of NAFDAC to a wider audience, 2face Idibia with Hypertek, Now Muzik and Promotie initiated the FASPAC project, driven by the theme song, “Man Unkind”. “The menace of fake drugs and sub-standard edible products is one evil every Nigerian has a responsibility to fight for obvious reasons. People involved in the trade are merchants of death and their targets are us – ourselves, family, friends, colleagues, neighbours and compatroits” the singer/song writer stated.
Beyond the media launch which was primarily designed to create an avenue for the promoters to solicit the support of the media for their humanitarian work and the efforts of NAFDAC, plans are in place to stage a series of roadshows and events to sustain the campaign and ensure its success. Now Muzik’s Efe Omorogbe, the project coordinator adds,”We are working on bringing on board interested partner organizations and corporate bodies to take this campaign across the country in the coming months”.
2Face Idibia also played an active role as a celebrity endorser alongside General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) in earning Nigeria a WHO guinea-worn free certification. He is currently involved in mass awareness and fund raising work for Little Big Souls, the foremost not-for-profit organization dedicated to the care of children born prematurely across Africa.
Without any doubt the most accomplished artiste of his generation, 2Face Idibia put out his first recording Body & Soul as a member of the trio Plantashun Boiz in 1999. Twelve years later, he is still a dominant force of nature, reiterating his intention to retain top billing by emerging Artiste Of The Year 2010 at the MAMAs (among many others) for his latest effort The Unstoppable.
