On a spring evening, I joined a few friends in town to celebrate the departure of a colleague. We had been promising each other for so long to go there, so we met at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge last to see each other one last time. It's a chocolaterie but not only, they have several floors where one can be seated in front of various chocolate confections. Quite typical of the american chocolaterie that I've come across, most of their confections are truffles, but they also have a few pastries and other treats, beer and wine.
We shared a bottle of zinfandel and some delicious cakes: a chocolate torte. So creamy and rich, I loved it.
A cheesecake with peanut butter and brownie in it. Not bad at all but I'm not peanut butter crazy.
As for me I picked the Spicy Nibby Brownie, a brownie with cocoa nibs, cinnamon and cayenne pepper (inspired by one of their truffles). I love the warmth of the spices that lingers in the mouth, perfect with a glass of wine.
I brought a few truffles home so as not to leave Hubby empty handed. Canela Piquante was our favorite because very flavorful, a good dark chocotlate and to me the pleasure of the cinnamon chocolate together.A friend recommended the Indian Kulfi: rose, pistachio, cardamom and milk chocolate. The flavors were pleasant, but I like dark chocolate better. However I think I will try the liquid version next time since they serve a liquid truffle with that flavor. The ginger pomegranate truffle was a little too subtle to my taste.
All and all I really enjoyed it, the atmosphere was great, the combination of wine and chocolate just perfect. I think next time we're eating in town I might go there for my dessert.
