For its first series issued in 2011, the Korea Post has decided to start a new four years cycle devoted to "Made in Korea" animated characters.
The animated series "Pororo the Little Penguin" is honored for this first part, issued on February 22, 2011, through the impressive sheet containing 10 self-adhesive stamps below.
Thank you very much Ji-Ho for this beautiful registered cover with special postmarks dated February 26, 2011 issued in Busan :-)
The inevitable unfortunately happened with this kind of issue printed on glossy paper : the ink of postmarks (featuring Pororo) has run...
Ten of the main characters of this animated series, created in 2003 by Cho Jong and produced by the Korean animation company ADV Films, are included in this series above.
This cartoon has since been exported to over 110 countries including France.
This souvenir sheet also has the particularity of including several stickers, including one in the upper right depicting all the characters around a plane !
Ji-Ho was kind enough to send me also the following five letters each franked with two stamps of this series, also including different stickers !
Eddy, a little intelligent and inventive red fox dreaming of becoming a great scientist, appears on the stamp above to the left.
The other stamp depicts Poby (the largest character part of this series), a polar bear with a big heart who enjoys fishing and photography.
Pororo, a little blue penguin wearing aviator cap and big round aviator goggles, is featured above to the left. Pororo, who tries to fly, is engaged in many jokes with his friends living all in the snowy village of Porong Porong Forest.
Pororo lives in a house along with Crong, a little green dinosaur who often causes trouble, depicted on the stamp above to the right.
Petty, a bright and athletic female penguin, is pictured above to the left. In the Season 2 of this animated series, Pororo develops a crush on her, making jealous Loopy, the little beaver below...
The jellyfish-like twin aliens, Pipi and Popo, two very curious characters living in a flying saucer, appear on the same stamp above to the right.
Loopy, a shy and sensitive female beaver, enjoying cooking and baking, is represented on the stamp above on the right and also on the huge sticker to the left with all her friends part of this series.
The little wayward hummingbird, Harry, who loves to sing (which does not necessarily please to everyone !) is featured above to the left.
The last two characters of this series, TongTong and Rody, are represented on the two stamps above.
Tongtong is a little dragon magician, living inside a volcano, that has the particularity of becoming much bigger when flying, often causes trouble for his friends with his more or less under control's magic acts...
Rody is a yellow robot, created by red fox Eddy, with cat ears, a permanent smile and stretch arms and legs.
On the other side of each of these five letters, Ji-Ho has added eight (10 won) definitive stamps, issued on March 6, 2003, featuring the national Korean flag "Taegeukgi".
This stamp was issued to replace the previous definitive stamp into circulation since April 1993, representing this same flag.
Korea Post has found nothing wrong with applying of the "Pororo" special postmark on these stamps issued yet eight years ago...
