Per Nordmark was right. When I asked him who was his favourite Swedish newcomer in 2010, he answered Christoffer Roth. "Really really good", he added. Well, Christoffer is not a proper newcomer. He has played (or still play) in different bands like Hets or Kriget and produced several artists like Moneybrother. But his first solo album Best in a mess will be out on the 25th of March. A new kind of love is its first single. It was released this week and is the only song from this record I could listen to so far.
I have always consider simplicity was the key in pop music. Mister Roth seems to share this point of view since A new kind of love is just a song with sharp guitar lines, nice melodies and catchy chorus. Simple and straightforward. Sure, the face of music will not be revolutionnized with those kind of songs. But revolution is not always the point. From time to time, having fun is good enough. And that's how it goes with Christoffer Roth music and his funny video. Just enjoy.

Per Nordmark avait raison. Lorsque je lui avait demandé qui était son "espoir suédois" préféré en 2010, il avait répondu Christoffer Roth. "Très très bon" avait-il ajouté. En vérité, Christoffer n'est pas, à proprement parler, un nouveau venu. Il a joué (et joue encore) dans différents groupes tels que Hets ou Kriget et a produit plusieurs autres artistes commeMoneybrother. Mais son premier album solo Best in a mess sortira le 25 mars prochain. A new kind of love est le premier single. Il a vu la lumière du jour cette semaine. C'est le seul morceau du disque que j'ai pu écouter pour l'instant.
J'ai toujours considéré que la simplicité était la clé de la pop. Monsieur Roth semble partager ce point de vue puisque A new kind of love n'est qu'un morceau avec des guitares affutées, une mélodie sympa et un refrain entrainant. Simple et direct. Sans chichi. Alors, certes la face de la musique n'en sera guère bouleversée, mais faire la révolution n'est pas toujours le but. Parfois, prendre du bon temps suffit. Et c'est ce qu'il se produit avec la musique de Christoffer Roth et sa vidéo marrante. Alors, que demande le peuple ?
