Virtual Farmer's Market
Lors d'un aprés-midi au marché, j'ai vu un flyer qui semblait intéressant car il proposait de mettre les acheteurs en contact avec les fermes via Internet: Ashevillel Local Foods. J'ai mis ca sur le frigo et puis j'ai oublié. Sauf que bon là c'est l'hiver et il n'y a plus de jours de marché. Du coup j'ai ressorti le flyer, c'est une initiative trés intéressante.
L'idée étant d'aller sur le site, de choisir les produits de la ferme par lesquels on est intéressé, on passe commande et paye sur Internet. Ensuite il ne reste plus qu'a aller récuperer les produits a un lieu donné le mercredi.

Avantage pour le client: on sait ce qui est disponible a l'avance, il n'y a qu'a récuperer la commande. Des produits frais, de la ferme.
Inconvéniant: pas de contact direct avec le producteur (possibilité de poser des questions via le site tout de même). Pour le moment la commande ne peut être récupérée que le mercredi entre 16h et 19h dans un commerce du centre ville. Parking limité.
Avantage pour le fermier: pas besoin d'etre present sur un marché, cele permet de toucher plus de clients.

Coté produit, notre premiere commande comprennait une douzaine d'oeufs, 200g de roquette et un petit sac de topinambours pour un total de 8,69$. Déja cela fait longtemps que je n'avais pas vu une telle variété de couleur au niveau des oeufs, ca fait plaisir de ne pas avoir d'uniformité. Coté cuisson la jaune été bien orangé et le gout parfait. La roquette etait excellente, de meme pour les topinambours, rien a redire.
Deuxieme commande hier, des navets et de la roquette. La roquette a pris un coup de froid ou de chaud je ne sais pas, mais elle fait un peu peur. Le responsable du site m'a dit de lui envoyer un email et il me donnera un crédit pour le prochain achat.
La commande doit etre recuperee au Downtown Market, 45 S. French Broad Ave. Pas tellement de place de parking et il vaut mieux pouvoir faire un créneau. Il faut se rendre dans la section Amazing Savings. Juste en rentrant aller sur la droite, derrière les frigos, les responsables sont en général assis a une table pour vérifier votre commande.
Dans le monde d'Internet d'aujourd'hui je trouve le project intéressant et j'espere que d'autres fermier vont rejoindre le site. Ca a les avantages de la MAP tout en laissant au client la possibilite de choisir les produits.

During an afternoon at the local tailgate market, I saw a flyer that looked promising since it offered to connect buyers and farmers online: Asheville Local Foods. I put it on the fridge and then forgot about it. Except that it’s winter now, so no tailgate market. I took a second look at the flyer and found the initiative interesting.
The idea is to go on the website, pick farm products from the selection, order and pay online. Then all that’s left to do is pick up the order in a set location on Wednesday.
Advantage for the clients: knowing ahead what will be available, all there is to do is pick up the order of fresh farm products.
Inconvenient: no direct contact with the farmer (although it’s possible to ask questions on the website). At this time the order pick up is a bit restrictive: only from 4-7pm on Wednesdays in a downtown store with limited parking.
Farmer’s advantage: no need to go to a tailgate market, able to sell to more clients.
Product wise, our first order included a dozen eggs, ½ pound of arugula and a small bag of Jerusalem Artichokes for a total of $8.69. First of all it’s been a while since I’ve seen such a variety of egg color, it’s nice not to have them all the same. Cooking them we got a perfect orange egg yolk and a great taste. The argula and the sunchokes were excellent too.
Yesterday’s second order was turnips and arugula. The argula had gotten too hot or too cold, not sure, but it looked a little scary. The owner told me to shoot him and email and that he would give us a store credit.
The order has to be picked up at the Downtown Market, 45 S. French Broad Ave. Not much parking spaces, one better be able to parallel park. Enter and go to Amazing Savings, right there go to the right, behind the refrigerators, the owner is usually sitting at a table to give you your order.
In the Internet world of today I find the project interesting and I hope that more farmers will join. It kinds of has the benefits of the CSA except that you get to choose what you want.
