In the hotel where I work there are many of us, more than a hunderd (two hundred maybe?) walking by each other. Of course we don't all know each other, but we pass each other by, in the hallways and at the staff cafeteria. So when I saw this sign Tuesday for a fund raising, I had knots in my stomach. She was 25, they got married in October. We could see them both in the hallway, him tall and blond in his outdoor uniform, her tiny little thing with her kitchen hat.
What I didn't know is that she had serious diabetes. In the night of Saturday to Sunday they were to check her blood sugar around 3am. When he woke up it was 4am, he knew they were behind, but it was already too late, she was gone, or that's what my colleague told me at least. Officially it's diabetes complications, some talked about a seizure.
This sucks! 25 y.o., married for 7 weeks, it breaks my heart and I barely knew her. It so stupid to die of a disease that could be controlled. So stupid to die so young. She was younger than my brother.
So they're having a bake sale in her memory. It could seem ironic but she worked in the kitchen and made desserts, so it's pretty appropriate. For me it will be Auralyn's Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies, but today they will just be cookies for Mary.
It's also a reminder not to wait for things to happen in life, live it a 100%.
