Lubenice and World Expo in Croatia
Je rêvais discrètement de recevoir une lettre de Croatie affranchie avec le splendide bloc-feuillet ci-dessous !
Mon rêve a été exhaussé (merci beaucoup Dragan !) avec cette lettre postée le 18 septembre 2010 de la ville d'Opatija :-)
Je considère en effet ce bloc-feuillet, émis le 21 mai 2010, comme l'un des plus réussis de l'année 2010, toutes administrations postales confondues !
Ce bloc reproduit une superbe photographie de Petar Strmečki, montrant une vue du petit village de Lubenice, situé sur l'île de Cres (la plus grande île croate de la mer Adriatique).

My dream comes true (Thank you very much Dragan !) with this letter mailed on September 18, 2010 from the city of Opatija :-)
I indeed consider that this souvenir sheet, issued on May 21, 2010, is one of the most successful of 2010, all postal administrations taken together !
This sheet is reproducing a beautiful photograph by Petar Strmečki, showing a view of the small village of Lubenice, located on the island of Cres (the largest Croatian island in Adriatic Sea).
Ce bloc permet d'apprécier l'emplacement unique de ce village de pierre, construit sur une falaise à 378 mètres d'altitude, face à la baie de Kvarner.
Ce site fortifié, occupé par l'homme depuis plus de 4000 ans, est aujourd'hui composé d'une quarantaine de bâtiments et a une population permanente de seulement 24 habitants.
En raison de son architecture rurale (réservoirs d'eau, four à pain...) et religieuse (nombreuses églises et chapelles médiévales), Lubenice figure depuis 2005 sur la liste indicative proposée par la Croatie pour être prochainement inscrit au patrimoine de l'humanité...
This sheet allows to appreciate the unique location of this stone village, built on a high cliff, 378 meters above sea level, overlooking the Kvarner Bay.
This fortified site, settled by man for over 4,000 years, is now composed of forty buildings and a permanent population of only 24 inhabitants.
Because of its rural (water tanks, bread oven...) and religious (many medieval churches and chapels) architecture, Lubenice is inscribed since 2005 on the tentative list proposed by Croatia to become a forthcoming World Heritage site...
Un autre bloc-feuillet, très différent, figure sur cette autre lettre ci-dessus en provenance de Croatie, postée le 25 août 2010 de la ville de Lukac.

Comme de coutume, la poste croate a à nouveau émis cette année, le 29 avril 2010, ce bloc pour commémorer la participation de la Croatie à l'exposition universelle de Shanghai qui se termine à la fin de ce mois d'octobre.
Avec ce bloc, la poste croate a voulu évoquer le thème du pavillon croate, "la Croatie, une diversité de villes, une diversité de la vie" en représentant un plan du centre historique de Dubrovnik sur le timbre et un plan du métro de Shanghai dans les marges rouges !
Les 2 caractères chinois signifiant Shanghai figurent également sur ce timbre.
Another souvenir sheet, very different, is included on the other cover from Croatia above, mailed on August 25, 2010 from the city of Lukac.

As usual, the Croatian Post has issued this year again, on April 29, 2010, this block to commemorate the participation of Croatia in the Shanghai World Expo, which ends at the end of this month.
With this sheet, the Croatian Post wanted to evoke the theme of the Croatian pavilion, "Croatia, diversity of cities, diversity of life" by featuring a map of the historic center of Dubrovnik on the stamp and a map of the Shanghai underground in the red margins !
The two Chinese characters meaning Shanghai are also included on this stamp.
Josip a complété son affranchissement avec un timbre à 5 kn, émis le 16 août 2004, faisant partie de la jolie série (toujours en cours ?) de la poste croate consacrée à des villes du pays.
J'ai déjà évoqué ce timbre dans un message précédent, évoquant la ville de Virovitica (Slavonie, comitat de Virovitica-Podravina) et son château Pejačević (datant de 1804).
Ce même timbre (dimensions différentes et absence de valeur faciale) figure sur la carte pré-timbrée ci-dessus (merci Josip !) émise le 5 septembre 2005 pour célébrer le 260ème anniversaire de la création du comitat de Virovitica-Podravina ("Virovitičko-podravska županija" en croate) qui a Virovitica pour capitale.
Josip has completed his postage with a 5-kn stamp, issued on August 16, 2004, part of the nice series (still in progress ?) devoted to Croatian cities.
I've already mentioned this stamp in a previous post, referring to the town of Virovitica (Slavonia, Virovitica-Podravina County) and its Pejačević castle (dating from 1804).
This same stamp (different sizes and without any nominal value) is included on the prepaid postcard above (thank you again Josip !) issued on September 5, 2005 to celebrate the 260th anniversary of the creation of the Virovitica-Podravina County ("Virovitičko-podravska županija" in Croatian), with Virovitica as capital.
