Every year that the Agricultural Center right across from the airport there is the Mountain State Fair. I had never been but with our French guests it was the opportunity to go head first into American life.
There are several parts to the fair: agriculture (animals and plants), arts and crafts and then the carnival.
At the entrance there are several barns hosting all kinds of animals: cows, pigs, rabbits, horses, turkeys, donkeys, etc. Many of those animals participated in shows during the fair some even had prizes. We were quite impressed by the Brahman cows as well as the Longhorn (from Texas), and we couldn't resist the cute and adorable rabbits.
We even got to see the demonstration of Sheppard's dogs work.
In another building we found all sorts of vegetables and fruit, some had been grown by professionals, others by children. There were odd varieties, but what mainly impressed me was the giant pumpkins.
In that same building there were also all sorts of things... Patchworks, gourd creations, flower bouquets, cakes, jams, photos, paintings, and much more. A very eclectic mix not always so tasteful.
Outside was the fair. When there is fair there are rides. We didn't try any but we had a lot of fun looking at people in them however.
I know some people who go to the fair only for the food. As for us seeing it was enough, because while there are some appetizing things such as those caramel apples.
The rest is mostly fried and sweet. Such as this funnel cake.
This booth represents quite well the snacks found and consumed during the fair.
But the cherry on the cake, which we didn't dare to try was this.
