Thanks to the Belgian label Union Match Music, a young label from Brussels, we get an exclusive interview with Olivier Gregoire aka Kolombo. I wanted to begin by thanking the label and Kolombo who answers our questions. First interview of its kind, Actualites Electroniques will continue to make some interviews of producers, DJs and artists from the electronic music scene. They will give us their vision of the electronic music world. Next week, I will share with you a DJ set from Compuphonic, once again thanks to the Belgian recordings. "Hi Kolombo.

After all of your work under this name and thanks to Union Match Music, we wanted to know more about who you are. We have discovered a few days ago, thanks to your Soundcloud account your new production entitled "Waiting for", which will be soon released under the German label Kompakt. Can you give us more details?
> Yes, normally it should be released under Kompakt Pop. Michael Mayer is trying to "clear" the sample voice. I cross my fingers and hope there will be no problem to sell it...

If you act effectively under the nickname Kolombo, you produced also numerous tracks under your other alias, Olivier Gregoire. Could you explain us why you decided to create a nickname for some of your productions and how you decide to produce this or that piece under one of your aliases?
> Marc Romboy asked me to use my real name for this exclusive project under Systematic.

Knowing that you come from Belgium and more especially from Namur, can you tell us a bit more about the Belgian electronic scene, best known for his big night clubs?
> We should not complain too much: a small country, with a lot of dynamism. But I realize that as I live in Namur, to go out or to mix, I have to go thanks to the E411 road to Brussels, Antwerp or Ghent!

Do you have in mind an emerging artist of the Belgian scene, to introduce to our readers?
> There are really a lot of talents in Belgium: Aeroplane, Compuphonic, Spirit Catcher, Mustang, Vernon or Thomas Sari ... and so much more…

Belgium is a country between France and Germany. Do you prefer French or German electronic music? Could you give us and two or three name of artists from these world that you like particularly?
> A bit of both actually... For Germany, it would be: Tensnake, Motorcitydrumensemble, Solomun... And for France: It's a fine line, D’Julz or Joakim... although I'm much more into an English mood these days.

For a few months now, more and more people talking about the movie that depicts the Berlin producer and DJ, Paul Kalkbrenner who plays in "Berlin calling”. Did you see it?
> Yes I saw it... But I think there is something more in music than just hard drugs and colored balls! But perhaps you go crazy after a while...:) But you know, tastes and colors….

To conclude this interview, we have for you some express questions to know you better.

Your next project?
> The album “Mugwump” with Geoffroy on Kompakt, which is 90% finished. There are also a remix on the new label of D-Edge*, which is also one of the best clubs in the world, according to me and certainly a solo album next year. But for now it's a birthday gift for my girlfriend...

The song you preferred in your discography?
> “Sarma” on Systematic Recordings and the entire “Antimatter EP” with Compuphonic on Turbo Recordings.

What is the artist with whom you would like to work one day?
> There are so many... For me the biggest producers this year are Tensnake, Aeroplane, Kink, Soul Clap... but to make collaboration with them is something else... I love their work anyway!

Are you vinyl or mp3?
> Both. The vinyl first, but CD is of course much more convenient and reliable... Unfortunately...

Your better souvenir of this summer: a  place where you played this summer ? (Anecdote, heat the public)
> It was Thailand, it was fantastic! The people! The food! The weather! I can’t wait to go back there with my buddy Jean Vanesse from Spirit Catcher for our tour in February.

Your favorite track these days?
> No track in particular, I hear a lot of soul, discofunk of the late 70’s, early 80’s. The first Portishead album will remain a "classic" for me.

Grâce au label belge Union Match Music, tout jeune label bruxellois, nous avons obtenu en exclusivité, une interview du reconnu Kolombo aka Olivier Grégoire. Je tenais en introduction tout d’abord à remercier le label et Kolombo qui se sera prêté à ce jeu d’interview. Premier interview du genre, Actualites Electroniques continuera à donner la parole aux artistes, afin qu’ils puissent eux aussi donner leur vision du monde de la musique électronique. « Salut Kolombo,

Suite à tout ton travail sous ce pseudo et grâce au label Union Match Music, nous voulions en savoir un peu plus sur qui tu étais exactement. Nous avons ainsi découvert il y a quelques jours, grâce à ton compte Soundcloud ta nouvelle production « Waiting for », qui devrait voir le jour sous le label allemand Kompakt. Peux-tu nous en dire un peu plus ?
> Oui, normalement ça doit sortir sur Kompakt pop. Michael Mayer est en train de faire les démarches pour « clearer » le sample de voix. Je croise les doigts pour qu'il n'y ait pas de problèmes…

Si effectivement tu agis ces derniers temps sous le pseudo Kolombo, on te doit aussi et surtout de nombreuses productions sous ton autre alias Olivier Grégoire. Pourrais-tu nous expliquer pourquoi tu as décidé de créer un pseudo pour certaines de tes productions et comment tu décides de produire tel ou tel morceau sous un de ces alias?
> C'est Marc Romboy qui m'a demandé de faire sous mon vrai nom un autre projet exclusif pour Systematic.

Sachant que tu viens de Belgique et plus précisément de Namur, peux tu nous dire un peu ce qu’il en est de la scène électronique belge, surtout connue pour ses gros clubs ?
> On ne doit pas trop se plaindre : c'est un petit pays qui bouge pas trop mal. Mais je me rends compte qu'habitant Namur, pour sortir ou mixer, je prends bien plus souvent la E411 direction Bruxelles, Anvers et Gand.

Aurais-tu en tête un artiste montant de la scène belge à faire découvrir à nos lecteurs ?
> Il y a vraiment beaucoup beaucoup de talents en Belgique : Aeroplane, Compuphonic, Spirit Catcher, Mustang, Vernon, Thomas Sari… pour ne citer qu'eux.

La Belgique est un pays entre la France et l’Allemagne. Tu serais plutôt musique électronique française ou allemande ? Pourrais-tu nous citer ainsi deux ou trois artistes emblématiques pour toi de ces deux mondes ?
> Un peu des deux en fait... Pour l'Allemagne ce serait Tensnake, Motorcitydrumensemble, Solomun… Et la France, It's a fine line, Djulz, Joakim… bien que je sois beaucoup plus dans le trip Anglais actuellement.

Depuis quelques temps, de plus en plus de monde parle du film qui met en scène le berlinois Paul Kalkbrenner : « Berlin calling ». Ca te dit quelque chose ? As-tu eu la chance de le voir ?
> Oui je l'ai vu aussi…mais je pense qu'il y a autre chose dans la musique que les drogues dures et les boules de couleurs. Mais peut-être que l'on devient fou au bout d'un certain temps…:)
Enfin, les goûts et les couleurs…

Ton prochain projet à venir ?
> L'album « Mugwump » avec Geoffroy sur Kompakt qui est  fini à 90%, un remix sur le nouveau label du D-Edge*, qui est aussi un des meilleurs clubs du monde selon moi, certainement un album solo l'année prochaine MAIS surtout dans l'immédiat c'est un cadeau d'anniversaire  pour ma copine…

Le morceau que tu préfères dans ta discographie ?

Quel est l’artiste avec lequel tu souhaiterais travailler ?
> Il y en a tellement…. pour moi les gros producteurs de cette année restent Tensnake, Aeroplane, Kink, Soul Clap… de là à faire une collab avec eux, c'est autre chose… mais j'adore leur boulot en tout cas!

Plutôt vinyl ou mp3 ?
> Les deux, le vinyl reste bien sûr, mais c'est tellement plus pratique et fiable le Cd… malheureusement...

Un lieu où tu as mixé cet été et qui t’as plus particulièrement marqué ? (anecdote, chaleur du public)
> Cet été  en Thaïlande, là-bas tout est terrible! Les gens! La bouffe! Le temps! J’ai vraiment hâte d'y retourner avec mon pote Jean Vanesse de Spirit Catcher pour une tournée en Février.

Le morceau qui tourne en boucle dans ton casque en ce moment ?
> Pas de track en particulier, j'écoute beaucoup de soul, discofunk fin 70 début 80, le 1er album de Portishead  qui restera "le classique" pour moi.
