Monocle magazine

Do you know about Monocle ? Not this ancient kind of glasses but the magazine I mean. Since 2007, Monocle has published about 10 issues per year, in English, for a circulation of about 150,000 according to Wikipedia. I had never heard about Monocle until a Dutch friend lend me an issue.

How different it is ! And high-quality topics, articles, photos, paper… Yes it’s expensive (11 euros) but it worth it ! Monocle is the epitome of the modern high-end magazine : not luxury-focused but talking about great quality products or services, totally open to the world (really a global magazine) in terms of business, arts, design, ideas…

And the tone fits perfectly well with a “Citizen of the world” audience : writers refers often to well-know places for expats or frequent travellers, but it is not only about leisure places : you can read about the proper way of doing business with Taiwanese people or about a new biscuit brand in Rio.

This really is a perfect mix of business, lifestyle, environement, travelling and ideas at large. In these times of digitazing the whole press whithout thinking about solid business models, Monocle is a very good example of people going against the tide, but doing it smartly and -I hope- with success : when one subscribes for 6 months or 1 year, he gets full access to the online archives, which are rich and well-thought for the Web.
