Manfred semble avoir de la peine à garder une formation stable et "Chance" ressemble plus à un album a l'Alan Parsons Project avec pas moins de 6 chanteurs  et 5 guitaristes plus Barbara Thompson au saxophone.

La présence de Trevor Rabin sur ce disque, lui aussi Sud Africain, est très importante, puisqu'il co-produit l'album, donne à l'Earth Band un son 80's plus moderne et va influencer Manfred pour son prochain album, dont le sujet sera l'apartheid en Afrique du Sud. 

Un album plus commercial que les précédents mais qui contient pas mal de bonnes chansons, dont "Lies through the 80's" de Denny Newman, l'ébouriffante reprise de  "For you" de Springsteen, "No guarantee" et "Heart on the street".

Pour la tournée 80/81, Chris Thompson regagne la formation mais la quitte à nouveau une fois la tournée terminée, bientôt suivi de Pat King qui sera remplacé par Matt Irving.
