For instance, on my way to work there is a chines restaurant. One day, Peter and I were looking for a place to eat, we had settled on pasta. As we were going to this Italian restaurant we walked by the chines one, and wondered if it was any good… Few days later I was talking to Vince, (and yes, as you can see it’s not just a blog, we really hang out all together!) and he tells me that he tried the chines and that it’s not good. Which brings me today, on my way back to work, walking by (as always) this chines restaurant, seeing a bunch of people making their order, thinking : “oops, they are making a mistake, bad choice” and then I saw something else and my mind automatically created another thought and forgot the previous one…
I don’t know if it makes any sense, but my point is, mind works in mysterious ways… No matter what we do, where we are or where we go, we are always thinking about something whatever that may be.
Try and stop thinking. Even just for a couple of seconds… You may just end up thinking about how not to think… So basically and biologically it seems impossible. How come that we cannot control our own mind and stop thinking…
And for that matter, I am wondering if we can even control our thoughts. We tend to believe that the thoughts that we have are ours… Are they really? Or are we in some ways manipulated or just simply conditioned by the way we have been raised, the Medias, social pressure n so on. Is our stream of thought streams away from us?
What is certain is that this stream leads us to so many places in our brain, we literally jump from a thought to another, we could actually say that our thoughts are a steady flow of serendipity. You think about one precise thing that leads you to more generals thoughts and then you’ll spot another detail and start again exactly like the way a creek, becomes a stream, becomes a river, becomes a sea, becomes an ocean.
It is fascinating to see where it can lead you… And when you are with a group of friend and that you let the conversation flow with your minds without taking care of the logic of the conversation, that everyone can react spontaneously according to what has popped up in his mind, it brings you even farther, till you’re not even able to remember what you were talking about in the first place. What is interesting is to make the way back to the first thought and realize it is actually quite connected to the last one.
I leave you now to your own thoughts, and wish you a good day!!
