Kirkland WA

Kirkland est la banlieue la plus sympa (a mon gout) de Seattle. Elle se situe a 20 minutes en voiture (quand il n’y a pas de bouchons, ce qui est TRES rare) a l’est de Seattle et compte environ 45 000 habitants. Pour y aller il nous faut passer par I-5 (interstate 5) ou l’on a généralement une belle vue de la ville, du lac de l’Union, des montagnes et du Mt Rainier. Ensuite, il faut passer sur un autre pont sur la 520 qui traverse le lac Washington.

Comme toutes les banlieues, Kirkland est remplie de condo, de maisons neuves, de chaines de magasins mais a su garder un downtown agréable avec des magasins indépendants, une marina avec des bateaux de plaisance et une boulangerie Française de bonne qualité!

Kirkland is one of the best surburbs of Seattle. It’s about 20 minutes away (without traffic, which is really rare) east of Seattle. It has a decent size population of 45,000 people. In order to get to it, we need to take I-5 and cross Lake Union then jump on 520 and cross Lake Washington, the views can be wonderful if the weather is right: Mt Rainier, the Cascades and the Olympics.

Of course, Kirkland is full of condos, fake built houses made out of plastic, store chains and cars but the downtown area is nice: independent stores, a marina to enjoy the view of the lake and Seattle and even a French bakery!

J’y suis allée faire un tour pour voir une expo d’arrangement floral japonais a la bibliothèque et j’espérais pouvoir me promener parmi les bateaux. L’expo était sympa mais la promenade a du être écourtée a cause de gros nuages noirs et d’un vent de fou!!

I went there to see an ikebana (Japanese flower arragement) exhibit at the library and was hoping to stroll around the boats. Unfortunately, I had to retreat quickly to a coffee shop because of really dark clouds and strong winds!
