London Mini Trip - Day 1

Et bien c'est certainement un voyage que je ne suis pas prête d'oublier!

Well it's definitely a trip I won't forget anytime soon!

Alors jeudi (malgré la neige et une chauffeuse de taxi pas très sympa) on est arrivé à la gare très tôt. Je pense qu'il était aux environs de 7h. Le train était à l'heure et nous sommes partis à l'heure (8h). Il n'y avait pas beaucoup de neige en Belgique ni en France, plutôt un brouillard/pluie... Pas certaine. Nous sommes rentrés dans le tunnel à 9h10 pour s'y arrêter à 9h30! Génial! Je pensais qu'on était près de la sortie car en général 20 minutes cest le temps de la traversée. Mais bon le train roulait nettement moins vite que d'habitude. On a eu une première annonce comme quoi le conducteur était en contact avec des gens en dehors du tunnel pour voir pourquoi on était arrêté. Je pense qu'il ne voulait pas faire paniquer les gens. Mon wagon s'en foutait complètement (je crois qu'il était un peu bourré! mdr). Ils nous informaient toutes les 10 minutes mais après 1h il était clair que nous n'allions pas repartir. Ils ont essayé de redémarrer plusieurs fois mais sans succès. Je pense qu'ils ont eu le même problème que la fois passé. La glace qui est sur le train dégèle dans le tunnel (vu la chaleur) et puis entre dans le moteur. Cela a duré encore un moment pour qu'une motrice vienne à notre recontre et nous remorque jusqu'à Ashford. Là-bas un Eurostar nous y attendait. Je dois dire que c'était bien organisé vu que le train était juste en face de nous. Donc nous avons juste du traverser le quai avec nos baggages. Une fois dans le train c'est là que c'est devenu un peu fou car ils nous ont offert ce que l'on voulait au bar. Des gens repartaient avec des caisses remplies de nourriture! mdr Enfin on nous a promis un remboursement de l'aller ainsi qu'un ticket A/R pour un autre voyage. Je viens de remplir un formulaire, on verra bien combien de temps cela va prendre.



So on Thursday (despite the snow and a grumpy taxiwoman) we got to the Eurostar station super early. I think it was 7am. Our train was on schedule and we left on schedule (8am). There wasn't much snow in Belgium or in France but more like a freezing mist/rain... Not sure. We entered the tunnel at 9:10am and at 9:30am we stopped in it! Fun times! lol I thought we were almost out because we had been driving for 20 minutes and that's usually how long it takes to go through it. But the train was running slower than usual. We had a first announcement that the driver was communicating with the people outside the tunnel to see what was going on. I think they didn't want to make people panic at first and so didn't really explain what was going on. They kept us informed every 10 minutes or so but after 1h it was clear that we weren't going to move again. They tried to start the engine several times but nothing. When we were in the tunnel (and still moving) it felt like it was raining. So I guess they had the same problem. The ice melts off the train when in the tunnel and eventually ends up in the engine again. Anyway they had to call a "train" to pull us out. This took quite a while since it had to get there. Then they pulled us to Ashford (also took freaking forever) and at Ashford a working Eurostar was waiting for us. I have to say they were really organized. The new train was opposite of us so we just had to walk a few meters. Once in the train it got a bit crazy because they said we could get anything from the bar for free. Give food and games to people and they soon forget all their troubles! The Romans had it so right! ;) I swear, people were grabbing as much food as they could! lol They also announced that the journey would be refunded and we would get a free ticket for another trip. I have just filled in a form for that so we'll see how long it takes. So happy to see this sign!



Nous sommes finalement arrivés à Londres à 12h20 au lieu de 9h! C'était amusant car à la sortie du train la presse était déjà là! Ma maman s'est arrêtée pour une interview et est passé au JT de TF1! Je dois dire que vu les circonstances tout à été très bien géré. Dans le tunnel c'est un peu comme dans le métro en moins claustrophobique je trouve. Il y a de grands "troittoirs" de chaque côté et des portes de secours tout les 10 mètres. Ce n'est pas comme si le tunnel avait une fuite. mdr Après tout les trains derrière nous ont du repartir sur Bruxelles ou Paris donc je suis bien contente d'être arrivée. Il n'y avait plus de départ à partir de Londres non plus. Je ne sais pas si les gens qui étaient là pour une journée ont pu repartir.

We finally arrived in London at 12:20pm instead of 9am! It was hilarious because as soon as we stepped out of the train the press was waiting for us! lol My mom was kind enough to stop and give an interview for TF1! So she was on the news for a few seconds! I gotta say everything was handled just fine considering the circumstances. Being in the tunnel is just like being in the subway. Less scary I think because there is like two sidewalks on each side of the train and huge exit doors every 10 meters or so. It's not like they announced the tunnel was leaking or something. lol In a way I am glad that we arrived because all the train behind us were sent back to Paris or Brussels. And none of the trains in London left! This is the chaos we saw when we arrived in Saint Pancras. I don't even know if the people who were there just for the day got back home!





Nous sommes arrivés à l'hotêl vers 13h. Après s'être un peu rafraîchit (et un peu crevées quand même) on a été faire un tour du côté de Regent Street et une partie d'Oxford Street. Je suis rentrée chez Anthropologie pour la première et c'est vraiment un magasin fabuleux. Le décors est superbe. Dommage que les vêtements soient si petits! Enfin j'ai trouvé de superbes gants en cashmere et cuir (-50%!).

Anyway it was 1pm when we were finally at the hotel. We freshened up a bit and since we were a bit tired by everything that had been going on we took a walk on Regent Street and Oxford Street. I went into Anthropologie for the first time. I really like the concept of the store and the decoration is amazing. The clothes are tiny though. :( But I found these amazing leather and cashmere gloves (50% off!).


Le soir nous sommes allés voir Legally Blonde au Savoy Theatre. C'était bourré! J'ai su plus tard que c'était la semaine de la presse donc il y avait quelques journalistes très spéciaux qui n'arrêtaient pas de prendre des notes dans leur programme. ;) Le show est vraiment très amusant. J'ai adoré. Tout les acteurs sont vraiment excellents et plein d'énergie. Sheridan Smith fait une Elle vraiment parfaite. J'avais déjà pu la voir dans Little Shop of Horrors et j'étais franchement impressionée. Duncan James (Warner), ancien membre du boys band Blue, est un très bon choix aussi. Sa voix n'est pas exceptionelle mais il est parfait pour jouer le fiancé superficiel. Et oui il est vraiment très beau. ;)

At night we went to see Legally Blonde at the Savoy Theatre. It was so packed! I later found out that it was press week. So lots of weirdos taking notes on their program. ;) The show is just so much fun. I really loved it. The cast is perfect and full of energy. Sheridan Smith really makes the perfect Elle. I had already seen her in Little Shop of Horrors and was really impressed by her acting and voice. She is just so sweet. Duncan James (Warner), former boys band member, was a good choice too. His voice isn't amazing but he fits the cocky boyfriend perfectly. And yeah he is very handsome.
