The Presidency of the French Republic has used again this year a postal stationery to send its New Years's Greetings.
I had already published in 2009, the previous one on this blog, the same as this new one below sent on January 7, 2010 with also the same mechanical cancellation from Paris Villette CPC. This pre-stamped (with the Marianne designed by Yves Beaujard chosen in July 2008 by Nicolas Sarkozy...) envelope is used for Priority letters (up to 20g) from France to France, Monaco and Andorra.
This envelope approved by the French Post, with a "The President of the Republic" header, has a permanent validity and the back bears the approval number No. 909 - Lot G4K/09A517 (No. 909 - Lot G4K/08A636 on the last year's cover).
As a reminder, mails from the Presidency of the French Republic are no longer circulating in free postage since 1996 whereas French citizens can still send their letters to the Elysée Palace post free...
The first part of the attached greeting card above reproduces a rather nice photograph taken from the fountain in the gardens, showing in the background the facade of Elysée Palace, the official residence of the French President since 1873.
Last year, a night view of the Elysée Palace's entrance courtyard was reproduced on this card.
Another particularity compared to the last year's card, the French Head of state's wife (since February 2008) Carla Bruni-Sarkozy joined this year her husband to wish me her Season's Greetings !
Two autographs for the price of one :-)
Here is a translation of the President's wishes in French above :
"We've appreciated your best wishes, and we would like to thank you very much. We have pleasure to send you too, and also to your family, our warmest wishes for 2010.
The major changes in the world give even more value to friendship, family and solidarity.
May 2010 be the year bringing us together ! "
