Un journaliste de The Economist découvre les Américains au hasard d’une conférence :
Time and again, the Americans I was talking to, who were by no means a bunch of red state conservatives, expressed real puzzlement about the sense of urgency that surrounds the European debate on climate change. What is the pressure for legislation right this minute, why are the alarm bells ringing, I kept being asked? I would guess that most of the people I spoke to would say they believed in man-made global warming, and believed it was a serious problem. But I kept being told: we hope this can be fixed with technology, why are Europeans so focussed on doom and gloom? Why is there such pressure on America on this?
Attitude différente à la vie ? L’Américain est certainement plus optimiste que nous. Peut-être aussi a-t-il plus à perdre à la rigueur environnementale ? En tout cas, il a une perspective à beaucoup plus court terme que la nôtre.
