A short post today to show you this interesting souvenir from Normandy.
On the occasion of the 55th Regional Congress of the Philatelic Associations of Lower Normandy, which took place on 10 and October 11, 2009 in the city of Caen, a personalized stamp (type "MonTimbraMoi") and a special postmark were issued.
Here is an example on the cover below. Thank you very much Stéphane (thank you also for the "Euromed" from the "Salon d'Automne" !).
As part of this Stamp Congress, a philatelic exhibition was held in the Exchequer (named after the sovereign Court of Normandy) Hall, located within the castle of Caen, built circa 1060 by William the Conqueror, one of the largest castles in Europe.
This castle, in particular the "Porte des Champs" (built in the early 13th century, one of the two entrances to the castle), is pictured on the stamp and cancellation above.
This stamp exhibition allowed to admire, among others, a set of outstanding pieces about the French Revolution (including a map of Paris dating from 1791 or an autograph letter from Robespierre dating from 1790).
