Version Info
The text below is mainly taken from the original text file that came with this version, widely available over the Internet.
First of all, many thanks to John Y. for originally sending me this priceless treasure.
This Very good audience recording has been mainly uncirculated for over thirty years. It has surfaced in mp3 form just a month or two ago and now here you go with the real deal, straight from the master ! This was the famous Hammersmith show when the power went off for 2 minutes between "War Pigs" and "Sabbra Cadabra". The performance is thrilling as were almost every shows from the "Sabotage" tour (even if Ozzy's vocals from the beginning of the show aren't really in key due to the flu).
In this torrent you will find both the raw master rip and the remaster I did. The original recording, while brillant, is a little boomy and muffled on some places so I cleaned it up and boosted the sound a little. I also rectified the balance as the right channel was a little overwelmed by the left. This version sounds a lot sharper and clearer than the original. As I know some will prefer the remaster while other will prefer the sound of the raw master better, I decided to share both.
Here are my personnal notes on the remaster version.
The recording cuts 20s into the first song : it gets clearer after the start of KYTD. After KYTD, Ozzy explains his voice is gonna be crap tonight. After HITS someone says near the taper "fucking hell". It sounds like there's a cut at the end of Snowblind, but no music is loss. The lights go off after War Pigs, and the bans starts getting into "Brazil". The show continues nicely until the last song.
As far as recording quality is concerned, the band sounds a bit
distant. The bass is very present, but not overloaded, Ozzy's voice is
clearly audible. The drums are a bit far back in the mix (you can
hardly hear the bas drum).
The audience is very disciplined near the taper, you can hardly hear
anyone during the songs, just a few hand claps here and there.
A bizarre feeling about tape speed though, but i might be wrong : the recording seems a bit slow...
Overall, an excellent rendering of a nice show.
