Montys Loco is one of those bands I heard about for quite a while, without actually spending enough time listening properly to their music. Fortunately, they were the opening act of the Titiyo/Nina Kinert gig I mentionned last time. I confess I did not expect them to be as good as they were this night. Consequently, I bought their two latest records Farewell Mr Happy (released in 2008) and Man Overboard (produced in 2006 by Björn Yttling, the Björn of Peter, Björn and John) and have been listening to them for a week. Both records are good, but if I had to pick one, I would go for the latest Farewell Mr Happy. Especially for its songs Heavy and Criminal (what a bass line!). With their tensed anger and their brilliant lyrics, Montys Loco remind PJ Harvey at her best. All of theirs songs might not be as immediate as Heavy or Criminal, but it is obvious they stand at the top of the Swedish rock scene. I do not know when their next record will be out, but, this time, I will not miss it.

Montys Loco est l'un de ces groupes que je connaissais sans jamais avoir véritablement pris le temps d'écouter attentivement leur musique. Heureusement, ils jouaient en première partie du concert de Titiyo/Nina Kinert dont j'ai parlé la dernière fois. J'avoue que je ne m'attendais pas à ce qu'ils soient aussi bons cette nuit là. J'ai donc acheté à ce concert leur derniers disques Farewell Mr Happy (sorti en 2008) et Man Overboard (produit en 2006 par Björn Yttling, le Björn de Peter, Björn and John) et les ai écoutés pendant cette semaine. Les deux disques sont réussis, mais si je devais en choisir un, je pencherais pour leur dernier Farewell Mr Happy. Surtout pour leurs morceaux Heavy et Criminal (quelle basse !). Avec leur colère rentrée et leurs paroles bien ciselées, Montys Loco rappelle PJ Harvey à son meilleur. Tous leurs morceaux ne sont sans doute pas aussi immédiats que Heavy ou Criminal, mais il est certain que le groupe s'impose comme l'un des fleurons de la scène rock suédoise. Je ne sais pas pour quand est prévu leur prochain disque, mais je ne le raterai pas.
