Nous abordons aujourd'hui une nouvelle catégorie du blog. Vous y trouverez des interviews de créatrices que j'apprécie d'un peu partout. L'idée est d'aller un peu plus loin que de me contenter de dire, j'aime bien allez voir.
On commence par Kendra Nakamura. J'aime ses créations girly et fruités, ses mélanges de style et ses couleurs. Elle fait souvant des choix audacieux et l'audace j'aime ça...
We approach today a new category of the blog. You will find interview by creative that I appreciate from everywhere. The idea is to go a little further to satisfy to me to say, I like, take a look.
One starts with Kendra Nakamura. I like her fruity girly creations and, her mixtures of style and colors. She makes daring choices and dare i like that !
1) Bonjour Kendra, pour commencer peux-tu nous parler de ton parcours de créatrice... As tu suivi une formation particulière ou es tu autodidacte ?
Bonjour Marie, alors j’ai un parcours scolaire bien différent de ce que j’aurais voulu [BEP Laboratoire, Bac STL, Fac Psychologie et Fac Histoire de l’Art] mais au final je suis contente d’en être arrivé là de manière autodidacte. J’ai la chance d’avoir eu des conseils de ma mère (couturière) et d’amies (couturières et créatrices).
Petite je dessinais beaucoup [j’ai appris de mon père] et je regardais ma mère me faire des robes pour moi, ma sœur et mes poupées.
1) Hello Kendra, to start can you speak to us about your cursus of creative… Have you followed a particular formation or are you an autodidact?
Hello Marie, then I have a school cursus very different from what I would have liked [BEP Laboratoire, Bac STL, FAC Psychology and FAC Art history] but with final I am glad to be arrived about it there in a self-educated way. I have the chance to have had councils of my mother (dressmaker) and friends (dressmakers and creative). Small I drew much [I learned from my father] and I looked at my mother making me dresses for me, my sister and my headstocks.
2) A quelle moment t'es tu mise à faire des choses pour les autres et non plus seulement pour toi?
Quand je suis arrivé à la Fac (ça fera 7 ans en Septembre) je cherchais à me faire plaisir j’ai donc acheté chez des jeunes créatrices/couturières puis un déclic est venu en voyant la réalisation d’une jupe , j’ai récupéré la machine de ma maman : d’abord de la restructuration, achat de temps à autre de tissus/merceries pour faire des petits accessoires et depuis 3 ans je fais mes propres modèles (patrons, coupe, assemblage….).
2) At which time have you began to make things for the others and either only for you?
When I arrived in University (that will make 7 years in September) I sought to please to me I thus bought in creative young people/dressmakers then a catch came while seeing the realization from a skirt, I recovered the sewing machine of my mom: initially of the reorganization, purchase of time to other of fabrics/draperies to make small accessories and for 3 years I have made my own models (owners, cut, assembly….).
3) Quand tu attaques une pièce quelle est ta logique de création? Quelle est ton approche?
En général c’est en voyant le tissu que l’idée surgit (par moment se sont des tissus qui sont là depuis 1-2 ans et pas d’inspiration sur le moment).J’ai toujours un fond sonore quand je suis dans mon coin couture/création (ça m’aide beaucoup), j’essaie d’imaginer la personne qui pourrait le porter (pour quelle occasion et comment) et je laisse mûrir jusque le lendemain. En lisant, sortant, faisant autres choses que la couture des détails du vêtement apparaissent et je note sur une feuille ou je dessine (inspiré par la rue, un film, un clip).
Le lendemain je sais que je vais pouvoir réaliser ma pièce.
3) When you began a new cloth which is your logic of creation? Which is your approach?
In general it's by seeing fabric that the idea emerges (per moment are fabrics which is there since 1-2 years and not inspiration at the time). I always have a background music when I am in my corner seams/creation (that helps me much), I try to imagine the person who could carry it (for which occasion and how) and I let mature until the following day. While reading, outgoing, making other things that the seam of the details of clothing appear and I note on a sheet or I draw (inspired by the street, a film, a clip). The following day I know that I will be able to carry out my part.
4) Comment vois tu ton travail? Y a t il des choses que tu souhaiterais voir évoluer ?
J’ai du mal à être objective sur ce que je fais ça c’est la question piège (il en faut bien une ^o^).
Je suis critique mais plus souvent de manière négative que positive, perfectionniste je cherche sans cesse à améliorer les modèles que j’ai pu faire mais en regardant les années passées et ce que j’ai pu faire mon travail à beaucoup changé et je pense que j’ai trouvé ce qui me correspondait bien (aussi bien techniquement que genre).
J’aimerais en apprendre un peu plus sur le modélisme et m’améliorer dans le patronnage (pour faire des vêtements plus élaborés)
4) How do you see your work? Are there things which you would wish to see evolving/moving?
It's hard for me to be objective on what I do, that's the trap question (one needs a ^o^ well of it). I am critical but more often in a negative way than positive, perfectionist I unceasingly seek to improve the models which I could make but by looking at the last years and what I could make my work with changed much and I think that I found what corresponded to me well (as well technically as kind). I would like to learn some a little more on model making and to improve me in patronage (to make more elaborate clothing)
5) Quelles sont tes sources d'inspiration ?
Mes sources d’inspirations sont variées il y a la musique, le cinéma, la Haute-couture, la culture Japonaise/Punk/Rockabilly/Gothique/Fetish, les gens dans la rue, les Blogs.
5) Where are you searching your inspiration?
My sources of inspirations are varied it there with the music, the cinema, the High-seam, the Japanese culture/Punk/Rockabilly/Gothique/Fetish, people in the street, Blogs.
6) Je sais que ton mari est musicien, est ce que la musique joue un rôle important dans ton travail?
Enormément, ayant fait 10 ans de musique et chorale [formation plutôt classique avec le Piano et Cor d’harmonie] j’ai besoin d’écouter de la musique quand je travaille.
Suivant mes humeurs je peux écouter du Depeche mode à Kate Bush, Bjork à Johnny Cash, Atari Teenage Riot, Fear Factory, Tori Amos, Ramones, Nina Hagen ………. ensuite un petite tour dans les tissus et là les idées arrivent [par moment j’ai une petit idée en tête mais j’ai besoin d’un déclencheur], c’est intéressant de faire une pièce sur un morceau de classique avec un tissu léopard vert & rose et tout ce que l’on peut exprimer à travers la création textile.
6) I know that your husband is musician, in what the music plays a big role in your work?
Enormously, having made 10 years of music and choral society [rather traditional formation with the Piano and French horn] I need to listen to music when I work. According to my moods I can listen to Dispatch mode in Kate Bush, Bjork with Johnny Cash, Atari Teenage Riot, Fear Factory, Tori Amos, Ramones, Nina Hagen .......... then a small tower in fabrics and there the ideas arrive [per moment I have small an idea at the head but I need a release], it is interesting to make a part on a piece of traditional with a fabric green leopard & pink and all that one can express through textile creation.
7) Y a-t-il des marques qui t'influencent?
Oui des marques et des créateurs comme JPG , Anna Sue , Betsey Johnson, V.Westwood , Alexander McQueen,Meow*Kiki, LimeCrime, N.Y Couture , Shrinkle , Label Of Hope ,PinUp couture , Mode Merr , Paper Doll , Poison Candy , Metamorphose , Atelier Pierrot , H.Naoto , Angelic Pretty ………
7) There are some brands which inspire your work ?
Yes, brands and creators like JPG, Anna Sweats, Betsey Johnson, V.Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Meow*Kiki, LimeCrime, N.Y Couture, Shrinkle, Label Off Hope, PinUp seams, Mode Merr, Paper Doll, Poison Candy, Metamorphose, Atelier Pierrot, H.Naoto, Angelic Pretty .........
8) Lis tu des journaux de mode pour y chercher des idées ou sont ils trop mainstream à ton goût?
Je feuillète les journaux de mode si je tombe dessus car il y a toujours des choses intéressantes mais je n’en achète pas. Je trouve qu’ils sont un peu mainstream bien que par moment il y ait du Rétro, pseudo Goth mais ça reste des choses dites accessibles pour la « Haute » (créations de grand couturier) ou pour la masse.
Si l’on souhaite voir des créations des petits créateurs/créatrices il faut chercher dans les journaux alternatifs ce qui est un peu dommage et pas toujours évident à se procurer.
8) Are you reading fashion magazines to seek ideas there or are they too mainstream with your taste?
I take a look on the fashion magazines if I fall above because there are always interesting things but I do not buy any. I find that they are a little mainstream although per moment there is the Retro one, pseudo Goth but that remains things known as accessible for the “High one” (creations of known dressmaker) or for the mass. If one wishes to see creations of the small creators/creative it is necessary to seek in the alternate newspapers wich are hard to find .
9) On sent aussi une vrai influence japonaise style harajuku fruits, le revendiques tu ?
Pas du tout, je ne veux pas revendiquer pour un genre en particulier l’influence est là mais ce que je fais est très variés car j’explore différents styles et je brasse tout ce que j’aime ce qui me correspond assez bien. Un de mes ami dit que c’est « Teignesque » ce que je fais ^^ (qui correspond à mon tempérament, mes passions….)
9) One feels also true influences Japanese style harajuku fruits, assert it you?
At all, I do not want to assert for a kind in particular the influence is there but what I do is very varied because I explore various styles and I brew all that I like what corresponds to me rather well. One of my friend says that it is “Teignesque” what I do ^^ (which corresponds to my temperament, my passions….)

10) Quelle est la pièce dont tu es le plus fière et pourquoi?
Une robe cerise d’inspiration Pin-up avec un laçage à l’arrière et un jupon en tulle.
Ca a été mon tout premier modèle à partir d’un patron et j’ai modifié quelques parties.
Maintenant elle est dans mon armoire et elle a même été reproduite pour ma belle-sœur (un cadeau) et la vente.
10) Which is the cloth of which you are proudest and why?
A pin up inspiration cherries dress with a lacing in the back and a tulle underskirt. It was my very first model starting from a pattern and I modified some parts. Now it is in my wardrobe and it was even reproduced for my sister-in-law (a gift) and the sale.
11) J'ai pu voir sur ton blog que tu as monté ton premier défilé ... Une bonne expérience?
Excellente, en plus d’avoir eu des super modèles j’ai un très bon photographe P-Mod qui m’a fait des beaux clichés (ça joue beaucoup). Bien que j’aie déjà eu l’occasion de défilé pour une boutique (niveaux organisations, timing …. je savais comment faire), là le fait de présenter ses pièces est différent, je stressais par l’avis du public, s’ils allaient être réceptifs, apprécier la prestation et les créations…..et les échos que j’ai eu pour l’instant ont été positifs.
J’ai hâte d’arriver à mon prochain défilé et c’est une belle récompense de son travail quand on en arrive là.
11) I could see on your blog that you did your first fashion show… a good experiment?
Excellent, in addition to have super models I have a very good photographer [P-MOD] who made me beautiful photos (that plays much). Although I already did a fashion show for a shop (levels organizations, timing…. I knew how to make), there the fact of presenting its parts is different, I stressed by public reactions, if they were going to be receptive, to appreciate the service and creations ..... and the echoes which I had for the moment were positive. I am in a hurry to arrive at my next fashion show and it is a beautiful reward our work when we arrive here.

12) Quels sont tes projets pour les prochains temps?
Concrétiser mon projet de lingerie pour l’été 2010 [toujours à l’état de prototype] , préparer une mini-collection pour la Freaky Market [avec la création de manteaux/Vestes] , m’initier aux Patchwork et l’appliquer sur les vêtements (pour donner du volume et faire un mélange des genres) , une collection liée à l’univers musical (des robes de chanteuses)
2) Which are your projects for next times?
Concretize my project of underwear line for the summer 2010 [always with the state of prototype], to prepare a mini-collection for Freaky Market [with the creation of coats/Jackets], Initiate me in Patchwork and to apply it to clothing (to give volume and to make a mixture of the kinds), a collection related to the musical universe ( dresses of singers)
13) Je pense qu'internet favorise la création et permet d'ouvrir son horizon de clientèle, es tu d'accord avec ça?
Oui tout à fait d’accord , internet est une source d’inspiration et de contact .En plus d’avoir fait la connaissance de plusieurs créatrices et voir ce qui se fait dans chaque pays (il y a une différence dans la création [approche des styles] entre les Etats-Unis, France , Angleterre …) cela m’a permis de vendre hors de la France . Etre sur des sites comme Myspace, des forums……. des réseaux se créent, il y a beaucoup d’échanges enrichissant, on parle de soi et la publicité est plus facile.
13) I think that Internet supports creation and allows to open his customers horizon, are you d' agree with that?
Yes completely of agree, Internet is a source of inspiration and contact. In addition to to have become acquainted with several creative and to see what is done in each country (there is a difference in creation [approach of the styles] between the United States, France, England…) that enabled me to sell out of France. To be on sites like Myspace, of the forums ....... of the networks are created, there are many exchanges enriching, one speaks about oneself and publicity is easier.
14) Ou peut on voir ton travail sur la toile?
J’alimente un blog sur mon univers Créa’Couturesque où je présente les nouveautés, mes aventures, mes projets, des évènements ……
Je suis également sur deux sites de ventes : ETSY et Dawanda dans l’attente de faire un site internet ^o^ .
14) Where we can see your work on the web ?
I feed a blog on my universe crea'seam where I present the innovations, my adventures, my projects, of the events ...... I am also on two sales points: ETSY and Dawanda in waiting to make an Internet site ^o^.
