Tracklist
Theo Parrish Black music (I love you) feat. Craig Huckaby Sound Signature (2007)
A great record to open a night. Oozing class and drenched in soul, this purely detroit made record bridges the gap from one motor town artist to another. As Theo Parrish says himself ’sampling can become a tribute’

QTip Gettin’ Up Motown (2008)
I got this tip from listening to Gilles Peterson playing at FreeYourFunk’s birthday at Bataclan in Paris and then dj roy gave me the album. There are so many great songs on it, it was hard to choose, but I so love the intro taken from Black Ivory.

Tongue Twistin Ten Beat the devil Earthtone (1983)
I’ve never been one for playing nor collecting super rare records only for the sake of it, but I was impressed to discover that this one doesn’t feature on discogs. What’s more is that I got it completely out of the blue when a friend who used to dj at weddings gave me a bunch of old records he wanted to get rid of. It’s a cracker, proper leftfield electro disco funk with a kids choir as a bonus on top !

Kathy Diamond All woman Permanent Vacation (2006)
Definitely a firm mona favourite, a track that I usually drop in the middle of the night to give it a change of direction. Aside from the bassline, I really love the electro bass synth solo part towards the end, drives people crazy.

Rollmottle Take a break (Maurice Fulton rmx) Sonar Kollektiv (2008)

Carrying through the trademark spacey electro funk feel from Maurice Fulton from one record to another. This is one of his hidden gems on excellent German label Sonar Kollektiv that fits in so well with the early bird mona dancers.

Hercules and love affair You Belong DFA (2007)

This gets played at mona every time, it’s got a few of the party’s ingredients in it : a camp house record that could have been made back in the day uniting nightwriters and inner city in the same studio.

T Coy Carino Deconstruction (1987)

One of the first house records I ever heard when I was still living in Manchester in 1987, and maybe the first Manchester made house record. I can remember taping this off Stu Allen’s show sunday night on Piccadilly radio over 20 years ago … it still sounds fresh today !

Detroit Experiment Think Twice Rope a dope (2003)
Definitely a another mona favourite, this donald byrd remake fills the floor at any time of the night. People always ask me what this record is and I can still see faces smiling and heads nodding in approval when I say the name Carl Craig.

Soulphiction Ghana Wadada (Lost men rmx) Sonar Kollektiv (2008)
Another release on Sonar Kollektiv, one of my favourite underground music labels that has an unbeatable level of quality consistency. It’s such a simple formula but when the slow pumping bassline breaks, the effect is so strong on the crowd that I have to play this one just for the pleasure of feeling that rush each time.

Ricardo Villalobos Farenzer House Sei Es Drum (2007)
This track has that subtle double effect that only a few rare house records have on dancers, a soothing deepness coupled with a throbbing infectious bassline that can take a floor apart and it definitely works that way with the people of mona.

Swing 52 You keep holding me back (love me) Cutting Records (1992)
I have always really loved the energy of this track. I lost it at home for a while and found it again when mona started, I was so pleased I played it out there as much as I could, so it’s really part of the night now.

Dyed Soundorom Tapioka (Agnes mix) Tsuba (2008)
In my own personal selfish opinion it’s great that producers are making house again like it used to be made. This track is a great example. En plus it’s made by my friend Dyed so I’m twice as happy when I play it out.

Loco Dice Pimp Jackson is talking now Desolat (2008)
Everyone who plays house music has been playing this record this year and rightly so. Mona has had it in her playlist for a few months now, I think she thinks it’s funny.

Mathew Jonson Typerope It is what it is (2004)
I’ve been playing this track since the day it was released, I’ve bought it twice on vinyl, burnt it on to hard disk and bought it on download just for good measure. What more can I say ? It’s a great track to mix in and out of records, but the bassline just standing by itself is enough to keep people dancing on and on … people just love that bassline.

Soul ID Believe (reel soul vocal) ABB (2007)
I have to thank my good friend manu at 12inch records in Paris for introducing this record to me. It’s a deep house vocal classic that can turn a night inside out. It’s a perfect song to drop when you want to throw a bit of heart into a night.

Grand High Priest Mary Mary WE ZE (2006)
I remember being so pleased when I heard this at coop in London. A track that crosses over from house music into Broken beat territory. It’s what a night should be about, crossing the tracks from one emotion to another, and it’s so good to have those special tracks that can help you jump into another mood.

Inverse Cinematics Don’t give up PULVER (2008)
Such an epic broken beat track, drives people nuts. I get really excited just before I play this one, just because I know it’ll send everyone crackers. Unfortunately you don’t get the full version of this tune as it had to be cut down for the mix to fit on to CD.

Part 2 features the sounds of 4hero, Cro Magnon, Karizma, Kerri Chandler, 33 1/3 Queen, Cameo, Kenny Dope, KC Flight, Deetron, DOP, Brother’s Vibe, Don Williams, Persia, Punkin’ Machine, Nightlife unlimited, Love birds, Hardrive …
