 L'étrange histoire de Benjamin Button arrive en tête avec 13 nominations, suivi, sans surprise par Slumdog millionaire et 10 citations. Petites surprises : Kate Winslet nommée pour Le liseur et pas pour Les Noces Rebelles. Le film est d'ailleurs absent des principales nominations, seul Michael Shannon est nommé en second rôle masculin. Satisfactions : Richard Jenkins et Melissa Leo sont nommés alors qu'ils avaient été oubliés aux Golden Globes.
La France obtient quatre nominations : le meilleur film étranger avec Entre les murs, déjà palme d'or : Alexandre Desplat à nouveau nommé (pour Benjamin Button) et pour deux courts métrages. Résultats cette nuit 22 février 2009.
