Publié le 11 décembre 2008 par Eogez
Twitter continue à croître en popularité et se révèle être très intéressant pour identifier des conversations et y contribuer. David Murray a trouvé un emploi grâce à cette plateforme et nous livre ses retours.

1. David Murray, you found a new job thanks to Twitter. Could you tell us more about your current position ?
I work for The Bivings Group – an internet communications firm located in Washington, DC.  My official title is Assistant Webmaster, Client Services and I assist in Online Community Management and Social Media Marketing efforts.
2. How do you use this media (your best practices) ?
If you mean social media in general – I use it as an opportunity tool. Social Media provides windows for networking and learning that otherwise would not be available if we were limited to only face-to-face.
When it comes to Twitter – that’s how I find out what’s happening “out there”.  It’s the best way for me to keep my finger on the pulse.  I found my job using Twitter Search, and I continue to experimenting with keywords to find conversations and people discussing topics or things that I am interested in.
My strong customer service and client management background translate how I use social media applications – helping and sharing
3. And now, do you use it differently?
When I first started in social media, I didn’t know up from down.Twitter was immediately dismissed and it wasn’t until I gave it a second go that I found how powerful a tool it is.
If you read my Twitter feeds, you’ll see I like sharing articles that I read and think others will find interesting.  I enjoy helping and I’ll also re-tweet frequently.
I’m not a big fan of using Twitter for simply beaconing messages but I’ll mention my blog from time to time.
I’ve mentioned Twitter Search - it is my new best friend and it’s a powerful application that I’m having a great time utilizing.
There are some who say that tweets like “my cat is sick” pollute Twitter.  I appreciate that, but I feel that is a human element that shouldn’t be ignored.
One of the best things about twitter is you can filter or siphon the conversations.
4. Why job hunters or recruiters should use Twitter?
If recruiters are smart, they should be learning how to use and implement tools like Twitter.
Doing so will help them keep their finger on the pulse on the job hunters who are out there and talking.  This will also save recruiters time and money finding qualified candidates.
5. How recruiters should use this platform ?
As more and more people start using Twitter Search would listening to what everyone is talking about – jobs, what type of jobs, jobs are people looking for, where are the job markets strong, where are they weak – where are the opportunities to find qualified candidates for the positions you need to fill.
Utilizing Twitter Search and similar tools will hopefully streamline the hiring process.
6. What's your online presence (social networks, blogs ...) ?
When I first started I made the mistake of jumping on every tool, application and network available. Now its quality over quantity.
My blog : http://www.themurr.com
Linkedin : http://www.linkedin.com/in/DaveMurr
Facebook : http://profile.to/DaveMurr
Twitter : http://twitter.com/DaveMurr
I also follow a circle of blogs and comment regularly. Providing valuable comments and being an active contributor to other people's blogs is just as important as being on a network like Twitter.
7. What's your take on digital reputation ?
It’s here to stay, so we better get used to it.
The lines between personal or professional online presence are being blurred.  I’m not convinced this is a good thing, but I am certainly not clever enough to figure out what the rules should be. I think we are all figuring that out.
8. How do you monitor and develop yours ?
To keep tabs on myself I use Twitter Search and Google Alerts.
Social media doesn’t lead itself to work in the dark and things can easily be taken out of context when brought to light – so there is the double edge sword.
In the back of my mind I am asking myself – is this bringing value to the conversation and am I being authentic – when I post anything online.
