Voici donc le texte que j’ai proposé à Marina en attente de ce spectacle qu’elle a monté avec beaucoup de courage et de persévérance !
« Abyssus abycum vocat »… With these three words from Hugo’s masterpiece, « L’Homme qui rit », Marina Neary opens up his work on Hugo and, at the same time, she hangs the spectator to a very special stage, a place Hugo would have called « Green-box », a moving place where the actors of « L’Homme qui rit » have grown up and been educated !
The idea of giving a chance to the spectator to follow Hugo through « real England » and through London, towards « the people of the abyss » is brilliant. It’s a good way to deepen the work of an author who, like his most impressive characters, manages to look through the other side of reality and through the mask of Society, Sexuality and human nature.
At the same time, this play explores many various characters and that’s a good way to understand which kind of man Hugo is, always very concerned with Justice, Rightness and what he used to call « Soul ».
Enjoy the stage then ! And follow the initiatic way of the Green Box !
