L'Atelier d'Architecture Galand est un bureau fondé à Bruxelles il y a près de 40 ans par Jacques Galand, et repris plus tard par Antoine Galand. C'est une petite structure, composée d'une équipe dynamique et multiculturelle.
Principalement basé à Bruxelles et au Sénégal, nous avons également eu l'opportunité de travailler dans plusieurs autres pays, tels qu'Haïti, le Kosovo et le Togo. Nos projets sont généralement publics, avec une forte pertinence sociale.
Travailler dans plusieurs lieux exige que le bureau fonctionne de manière innovante. En tenant compte de la diversité des lieux, nous devons toujours nous concentrer sur chaque aspect du contexte. C'est un défi permanent, qui nous oblige à mieux comprendre le contexte. Sortir de notre zone de confort nous encourage à adopter une mentalité curieuse qui nous permet de comprendre en profondeur les exigences des projets.
La durabilité en architecture inclut plusieurs aspects bien connus : les matériaux, l'efficacité énergétique, l'adaptabilité, la biodiversité, la durabilité, etc. Dans le processus de conception, nous nous efforçons naturellement de traiter tous ces aspects.
D'autres actions de durabilité pertinentes pour notre bureau incluent également des aspects sociaux, comme l'implication des habitants locaux dans le processus de construction. Cela crée non seulement des emplois, mais favorise également une connexion plus forte entre la communauté et le bâtiment.
En conclusion, dans un monde qui tend à être high-tech, nous nous concentrons sur le low-tech. Cela signifie répondre aux besoins climatiques par la conception architecturale plutôt que par la climatisation artificielle. Cette approche est particulièrement importante pour les projets au Sénégal. Nous visons à trouver des solutions à ces problèmes grâce à des plans bien pensés, la ventilation naturelle, l'orientation, les systèmes de toiture et plusieurs autres aspects.

Atelier d'Architecture Galand is an office founded in Brussels almost 40 years ago by Jacques Galand and later taken over by Antoine Galand. It is a small structure, formed by a dynamic and multicultural team.
Primarily based in Brussels and Senegal, we also had the opportunity to work in several other countries, such as Haiti, Kosovo, and Togo. The projects are generally public, with a strong social relevance.
Working in multiple locations requires the office to operate in an innovative manner. Taking into consideration the diversity of locations, we always need to focus on every aspect of the context. It is a continuous challenge, forcing us to better understand the background. Stepping out of our comfort zones encourages us to adopt a curious mentality that allows us to achieve an in-depth understanding of the projects' demands.
Sustainability in architecture includes several well-known aspects. It is about materials, energy efficiency, adaptability, biodiversity, durability, and so on. In the process of designing, we naturally try to address all of these.
Other actions of sustainability that are relevant for our office also include social aspects, such as involving local people in the construction process. This not only creates jobs but also fosters a stronger connection between the community and the building.
In conclusion, in a world that strives to be high-tech, we focus on being low-tech. This means addressing climatic necessities through architectural design rather than artificial climatization. This approach is particularly important for projects in Senegal. We aim to find solutions for these issues through well-thought-out plans, natural ventilation, orientation, roofing systems, and several other aspects.
