Sortie a Deux a Charlotte

A Date in Charlotte
Lundi dernier j'avais rendez-vous a Charlotte pour les biometrics c'est a dire la prise d'empreintes et la photo necessaire au processus de ma carte verte de 10 ans.
Cette année Hubby m'a accompagnée et nous avons donc décidé de transformer ça en sortie speciale.
Forcement nous avons du commencé par les biometrics, on ne pouvais pas se permettre de les rater.
Pour la petite histoire cette année j'ai recu deux convocations. L'une pour le 7 et l'autre pour le 11 juin. Heureusement je fais partie d'un forum d'immigration et j'ai donc découvert que je n'étais pas la seule. Du coup je n'ai pas stréssée. Lundi je me suis presentée avec ma carte verte et mes deux convocations. L'agent n'en a pris qu'une. J'ai rempli les memes informations que la derniere fois: age, race, couleur de cheveux, taille, etc.
Ensuite j'ai eu droit a mon numéro, je n'ai pas eu a attendre trop longtemps, quarante minutes peut etre?
A regarder les agents travailler j'ai croise les doigts d'avoir la demoiselle de droite qui s'occupait des clients deux fois plus vite que son collegue. La chance m'a souris et franchement ca c'est passé bien plus facilement que la derniere fois. Elle n'a eu aucun probleme a prendre l'empreinte de mes petits doigts (il avait fallu trois essai en 2007) et du coup a 11h20 on etait sortis de là.

Du coup on en a profite pour aller a Trader Joe's que nous n'avons pas a Asheville et où on peut trouver tout plein de bons produits bien moins cher (vin, fromage de chèvre, pesto, etc).
Last Monday I had an appointment in Charlotte for the biometrics meaning getting my fingerprints and picture taken for the my 10 year Green Card process.
This year Hubby came with me so we decided to turn it into a date.
Of course we had to start with the biometrics as it wouldn't be wise to miss it.
For the story, this year I received two appointment letters. One for the 7th and one for the 11th. Thankfully I'm part of a forum and I found out that I was not the one in that case. It allowed me not to stress. Monday I showed up with my Green Card and both appointment letters. The agent only took one. I filled in the same information as last time: race, age, hair color, size, etc.
Then I was given a numer, but I didn't have to wait too long, forty minutes maybe?Looking at the agents working I crossed my fingers that I would have the girl as she took care of clients twice as fast as her collegue. I was lucky and frankly it was far easier than last time. She had no problem taking my pinkies prints (when it took three tries in 2007) so were were done by 11:20am.
We took the opportunity to go to Trader Joe's which we don't have in Asheville and were you can find a lot of good products for cheaper (wine, goat cheese, pesto, etc). Pour le repas de midi on savait déjà où aller. Suite à l'entretien pour la carte verte en 2008, une ancienne collègue nous avait recommandé ce restaurant mexicain et leur guacamole fait à la table: Cucina 1511.

The famous guacamole. Fait a la table, on ne trouve pas plus frais et en plus ca nous a permis de demander au serveur de laisser des morceaux d'avocat. Miam!

Made at the table, it doesn't get fresher than that and it allowed us to ask the waiter to keep it chunky. Yum!

Ensuite je me suis regalee de tacos frits au noix saint jacques, poisson et crevettes. J'ai rigolé quand j'ai passé commande et que le serveur m'a dit avec un air soucieux: "Vous savez que c'est frit?". Et? Ca a l'air bon, je m'en fiche que ce soit frit moi. Il faut croire que ca gène certaine de leur clientèle feminine je suppose.

Then I enjoyed some fried tacos filled with scalops, fish and shrimp. I laughed when I ordered and the waiter looked at me concerned: "You know it's fried, right?". So? It looks good, I don't care if it's fried. I'm guessing it bothers some of their female clients.

Pour finir j'avais prevu de recuperer le dessert dans une patisserie francaise dont j'ai entendu parler sur un autre blog: Amelie's French Bakery. Alors google map n'a pas été à la hauteur et on a tourné en rond un moment avant de trouver la rue Davidson. La patisserie est un peu au milieu de nulle part et pourtant il y avait la queue. La baguette que nous avons mangé le soir était bonne mais a eu besoin d'une deuzieme cuisson pour être croustillante. Le croissant et la chocolatine nous ont fait un super petit déjeuner et le millefeuille (rebatisé Napoléon) et le brownie au caramel salé deux super desserts.

Le décor est vraiment sympa et on y trouve des vrais patisseries francaises, des tartes aux fruits et des gateaux qui ne sont pas recouverts de fondant et colorants. Je dois dire que ca fait plaisir, pour un peu j'aurais passé ma commande en français.

To finish I had plans to get a dessert at a french bakery I heard about on an other blog: Amelie's French Bakery. Google maps failed me and we turned around in circles for a while until we found Davidson's street. The bakery was a bit in the middle of nowhere and yet there was a line. The baguette we ate that night was great but needed a few more minutes in the oven to be crispy. The croissant and chocolatine (chocolate croissant) made a great breakfast and the Napoléon and the salted caramel brownie made two wonderful desserts.

The decor is really neat and there are real french pastries, fruit tarts and cakes that are not covered with icing and coloring. It made me happy and I almost ordered in French.

A l'arrière il y a deux salles pour se rassembler facon salon de thé. Super pour un rendez-vous entre filles ou un rendez-vous de blogueurs non?

In the back there are two rooms like a tea salon. Perfect for a girls meeting or a bloger meeting, no?
